NSS ADVENTURE CAMP AT ABVIMAS, MANALI (H.P.)

A group of ten NSS student volunteers (Parveen Rohilla Roll No.15073 ; Shweta Popli Roll No.16154 ; Diksha Choudhary Roll No.15467; Sagar Langyan Roll No.15512 ; Pawan Mehta Roll No.16702; Deepak Kumar Roll No.15160 ; Arfa Roll No. 15147; Rahul Kumar Roll No.16793 ; Varsha Singh Roll No. 16878 ; Rekha Rani Roll No.15507) along with NSS Program Officer Mr. Ashok Kumar from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a ten day Adventure Camp organized and sponsored by Ministry Of Youth Affairs & Sports, NSS Regional Centre New Delhi. The camp was held from 23rd February to 4th March 2015 at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports Manali (ABVIMAS), Himachal Pradesh.
The objective of this camp was to undertake adventurous activities like trekking, mountaineering, white water rafting, para-sailing, para-gliding and basic skiing for the NSS volunteers.
There were 30 NSS volunteers from different universities of Haryana Kurukshetra University, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon (representative college of M.D. University, Rohtak) and Hisar Agriculture University, Hisar.
Inaugurating the camp Mr. Mahavir Thakur Director ABVIMAS Manali H.P, stated the importance of Phycial activities for NSS Volunteers. He further introduced ABVIMAS (Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports) and the facilities provided for the youth.
Under the guidance of experienced instructors Mr. Gautam Thakur, Mr. Madan Lal Dogra, Mr. Devki Nandan and Mr. Lila Karan, the volunteers performed various activities like trekking, skiing, river-crossing etc and visited other historical places like Vashistha temple, Hidimba Temple, Museum of Mountaineering equipments etc. Under the guidance of the expert Mr. Devki Nandan, the volunteers learnt and practiced skiing for four days of the camp at Skiing centre ABVIMAS, Solang nala,Manali.
In addition to this, a series of lectures on disaster management, mountain hazard, Health issues and cleanliness etc. was also conducted by the experts of the centre.On the last day of the camp, the volunteers were given away the certificate of participation and the badges as token of encouragement.
The camp was very useful as the NSS Volunteers developed team-spirit, physical fitness, discipline, patience through participating in various activities. Such camps are required periodically for overall growth of the youth.
