INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2017 CELEBRATIONS
Microsoft Innovation Centre, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized a special programme to celebrate the 22nd International Women’s Day on 8th March 2017. All the speakers lauded the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women in the last three decades and felt that the day is also a reminder of their responsibility to achieve gender equality.
The Women’s Day was organized to motivate the girl students and raise awareness about the struggles of women the world over and honor their achievements. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. MIC, DCE also introduced #MakeWhatsNext Campaign started by Microsoft to increase access to computer science for girls and young women.
The College became Microsoft Innovation Centre in August 2014 and has conducted various workshops and seminars on newest technologies of Microsoft for faculty as well as students.
It also educated students of underprivileged rural school by conducting special courses and encouraged them to participate in various competitions like MOS CHAMPIONSHIP and Imagine cup and prepare them for the same.
The guests present during the Opening Ceremony were Dr. Reena Sharma(Head-Palliative Care Field Services, NGO-CanSupport), Mrs. Pujavi Singh (Senior Manager, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MLIC)), Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K. Prasad (Principal, DCE, Gurgaon),HODs and Faculty .
The event started with blessings of Goddess Sharda by lightening of the lamp and “Saraswati Vandana”. The students welcomed the dignitaries by presenting blossoming bouquets of flowers to them.
The opening speech was given by Honorable Principal, Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K. Prasad. He briefed the gathering by saying that woman is the life giver to the whole human race and it is the responsibility of everyone to give her a respectable status and honour in society. It was followed by a short teaser that showcased the women empowerment and also about the campaign started by Microsoft YouthSpark Hub #MakeWhatsNext.
Dr. Reena Sharma, who was the Guest of Honour of the function, said that thought process of women should change and each woman should respect other woman. . She cited various laws that are enacted in favor of women and asked the women to utilize and protect them.
The Guest of Honour, Mrs. Pujavi Singh conducted a very impressive interactive session with the girl wherein she advised girls to scale new heights in all the aspects of life. . She threw light on how to introspect yourself, what is modernization and how the younger generation should be responsible towards their duties.
The function involved cultural dance performances including group dances, song and skit. The groups of student-dancers put forth striking performances in colorful costumes and attractive backgrounds added a touch of sophistication. The performances opened with a Rajasthani group dance by girls to welcome the guests and audiences.
Overall the function was packed with lot of cultural dance activities and fun for girls. During the closing ceremony, Hon’ble Principal Sir presented mementos to the guests who spared their valuable time from their busy schedules and shared their expertise and words of wisdom with the girls and motivated them to raise their rights.
With all the joy and enthusiasm filled in everyone, reached the end of the celebrations with a cake cutting session to end it with a desert.
