Industrial Visit to Centre for e-Governance,
Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY )

CSI, Student Chapter of Dronacharya College Of Engineering, Gurgaonorganized an industrial visit to Centre for e-Governance, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) Electronics Niketan, 6 CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi on 23 March 2017. Forty-One students of II semester CSIT and IT branches, along with faculty coordinator Dr. Suchitra Deswal (Associate Professor) and Dr. Vaishali Dixit (Associate Professor) of Applied Sciences & Humanities Department visited the Centre.
The objective of this visit was to make students aware about the successful e-Governance initiatives in the country as well as the roadmap to match the short-term and long-term goals of implementation of e-Governance with specific technology solutions.
CeG has been envisioned as the stage for showcasing advancement in ICT domain especially in e-Governance by demonstrating applications from states, central line ministries, DeitY organizations and other implementing agencies. It is also meant to be a platform for latest and emerging technology areas that are part of DeitY directives and are also relevant to other ICT domains including electronics, Indian Language Solutions, solutions for differently-abled Centre etc.. The Centre is a part of the “Awareness and Communication” activity under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) and seeks to bring the achievements under NeGP under one umbrella for the information of the citizens. The visit was a part of this initiative.
During this visit the students were addressed by Mr. Sunil Kumar, Sr. Technical Officer, CDAC, New Delhi. He delivered a very informative and interactive talk about CeG and various projects handled by the department. The visit helped the students to know about various e-Projects of Central Government like Income Tax (IT), Central Excise & Customs, Banking, Insurance, Passport, Pension, etc. and various State level e-Projects like e-District, Land Records (NLRMP), Municipalities, e-Panchayats, Agriculture, Commercial Taxes, Road Transport, PDS, Education and Health etc. They were also briefed about a number of projects implemented in collaboration of Central Government and State Government such as India Portal, e-Biz, e-Courts, e-Procurement, CSC and etc.
They were showcased various social sector initiatives related to health and education and the demonstration of applications that reflected the progress of e-Governance which covers successful and high impact e-Government applications, content based on improved citizen service delivery, innovativeness, cost effectiveness and overall impact in fulfilling developmental objectives of the government.
After the presentation, a quiz competition based on the presentation by Mr. Sunil Kumar was organized. Our students participated in the quiz, enthusiastically. Manav Grover (19867) of CSIT got first position, Karampreet (19507) of IT got second position and Shreya Kumari Pandey (19885) of CSIT got third position.
Overall, the visit was very informative and students learned a lot from the presentation about the e-Governance.
