In-country Program on Instructional Design and Delivery Systems:
14th - 18th March 2017
Faculty Member Vimmi Malhotra, Assistant Professor (CSE Department), Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the In-country Program on “Instructional Design and Delivery Systems” organized by Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) from 14th - 18th March 2017 at NITTTR, Chandigarh.
The main objective of the training program was to make teachers know the applications of ICT in Teaching and Learning and evolve strategies for motivating the students. In the program, teachers learnt how to design instructions and how to evaluate students’ performance in theory and practical work.
Day 1: 14th March 2017 -
“Emerging Pedagogies and instructional processes”
The program was inaugurated by Dr. R Lamichhane, Director General, CPSC followed by Faculty Consultant Dr. G K, Chairman, CPSC and Prof Tulsi, Director at NITTTR and other faculty members of NITTTR, with introduction of participants from others states.
An introductory lecture was delivered by Dr. R Lamichhane on “skills for Global Competitiveness” which had covered a global trend of teaching now-a-days, challenges of TVET, what are the skills required to train the graduates to meet standard performance level. Followed by the lecture, Dr. G.K. elaborated the Teaching-Learning process, importance of Teaching, what needs to be done in the class, how it is to be done, to what extent it is to be done, need for planning, difference between macro and micro planning and the last planning of a lesson. A task was also assigned to plan a lesson as per CPSC instruction.
Day 2: 15th March 2017 -
“Learning outcomes”
Next day Dr. (Prof) Tulsi had discussed learning outcomes which helps teachers to know what students will understand during the lecture. She had also discussed Bloom’s classification of Learning Outcomes which is based on: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating.
Afternoon Session was taken by Dr. (Prof) G.K. in which he had discussed the major trends in Ongoing Education with latest technology trends & creating new cultures in order to bring enthusiasm in the Classroom. He had also guided everyone about designing of instructional strategies and usage of media such as NPTEL, E-Governance, etc.
Separate tasks were assigned in both the sessions.
Day 3: 16th March 2017 - “Instructional media & emerging technologies for teaching & learning”
On the third day, participants learnt how to motivate the students, what are the de-motivation factors which hamper a student’s concentration in the class room, by Dr. Sunil Dutt. He had taught that teachers must always appreciate the students. They should also try to remember the names of the students which will make them feel special and attentive in the class.
Afternoon session was organized by Dr. M.M. Malhotra where he had told how students should be evaluated on the basis of 2 criteria’s, namely, formative evaluation and summative evaluation, how it will be fruitful to students and encourage them to keep positive attitude regarding evaluation system. He had also discussed the type of grading system on which student can be evaluated.
Day 4: 17th March 2017 - “Motivating students & National Conference on “Technical & Vocational Education & Training in India: Challenges & Opportunities”
A National Conference was organized on “Technical & Vocational Education & Training in India: Challenges & Opportunities”, where researchers and academicians from other colleges had presented their papers with respect to this topic. Dr. R Lamechhane, Dr. G K, Dr. Tulsi, Dr. Sunil Dutt, Dr. S.K. Dhameja & Dr. M M Malhotra had enlightened the lamp and had started the conference.
It was pleasure to meet such great minds and to have discussed motivational factors regarding vocational training.
Day 5: 18th March 2017 - Student evaluation
On the final day, an online project was assigned and various tasks were uploaded on cpsctech.org wrt. Teachers areas of improvement and some valuable feedback was also provided by them.
Certificate for attending the National Conference and token of Appreciation was awarded to all the participants. In addition to this, attendees who had secured above 60% in online evaluation were awarded with a USB-drive and a Sony CD.
To conclude the proceedings, a thanks giving speech was delivered by Dr. Tulsi to appreciate the work of CPSC team as well as other participants of NITTTR and outside members.
