Ms. Parul Bansal (Asst. Prof & Mentor –GDG) from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended GDG DevFest 2017 organized by GDG New Delhi at Investopad, Gurgaon on 29th October 2017.
Google Developer Groups (GDGs) are for developers who are interested in Google's developer technology; everything from the Android, Chrome, Drive, and Google Cloud platforms, to product APIs like the Cast API, Maps API, and YouTube API.
The event commenced with an opening address by Mr. Arpan Garg (GDG New Delhi, Co-Organizer) where he gave a brief introduction on the activities of Google Developer Group. He also asserted the fact that such meetups provide a platform to developers and learners for upgrading their skills.
The first session of the event was on The Era of Module Bundlers by Arun Michael Dsouza (Software Engineer at AdPushup Inc.). The session covered the aspects of module bundlers, building tools and why they exist in javascript, new and improved javascript features, JS modules: maintainability, reusability, ease of testing, webpack and bundle optimization with webpack.

Products, users and developers are all interdependent. Then she explained the working of Dialog flow API which involves actions, agent, intent and webhook. She further explained the steps involved in defining a project on Google cloud. The interfacing of the project with IoT uses Google Assistant SDK, Python or gRPC and Raspberry Pi. A demonstration of a project with IoT a Dialog flow was given.
The session was followed by the session on Serverless with Google Cloud by Jaswant Sandhu (Tech Speaker, JSLovers & GDG). He explained, Serverless is a new paradigm of computing that abstracts away the complexity associated with managing servers for mobile and API backends, data processing jobs, databases, and more. Google Cloud offers benefits like Time-To-Market Improvement, Infrastructure Cost Reduction, higher-value devops tasks.
The next session was on Docker by Muhammad Falak R Wani(Tech Speaker, GDG). During the session he briefed, Docker is the company driving the container movement and the only container platform provider to address every application across the hybrid cloud. He added ,today’s businesses are under pressure to digitally transform but are constrained by existing applications and infrastructure while rationalizing and increasingly diverse portfolio of clouds, datacenters and application architectures. Docker enables true independence between applications and infrastructure and developers and IT ops to unlock their potential and creates a model for better collaboration and innovation.
A Quiz was organized during the event where participants were asked several questions on GDG and its activities and the sessions held during the fest and goodies were gifted to the top performers. Ms. Parul Bansal also received a bag during the quiz.
The meetup was a good learning experience for all the participants.
