Workshop on Azure and Machine Learning
26th - 29th April 2017
A four days’ workshop on “Azure, Virtual Machine and Machine Learning” was organized by Microsoft at BITS, Pilani Campus from 26th - 29th April 2017. As Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram is one of the MICs in North India, Nishant Kumar (17096) from CSE Department of DCE, Gurugram along with a Microsoft trainer Mr. Abdul Rasheed Feroz Khan went to the workshop as a trainer from Microsoft.
Microsoft organised a workshop on Azure and Machine Learning in which students were taught the basics of Azure, how to connect a virtual server using Virtual Machine and Prediction using Machine Learning.
The workshop was divided in 6-7 parts, i.e. students of BITS were taught 6-7 things regarding Azure and Machine Learning. First of all students were told how to activate an account on Azure and they were all given a unique key for their Azure account subscription.
After all the students activated their account in Azure, they were taught how to publish a site to Azure using Web Matrix which was then followed by a lab session and Nishant was helping the students in performing the same. Then hosting a website using FTP client server and windows explorer followed by a lab session conducted by Mr. Nishant (CSE 6th Semester Student).
On the next day, students were taught the basics of Azure and Machine learning. After that a 24 hour non-stop hackathon was conducted in which students were supposed to design a model of their own using Azure ML studio. Students had to think of their own problem statement and design their prediction model on Machine Learning.
Students from various departments i.e. CSE, IT, CSIT, ECE and ECS were present in the training program and participated in hackathon. They were divided into three teams. After the hackathon was over, all the students presented their model and Mr. Feroz khan and Nishant Kumar judged them on various criteria which included Concept, Technology used, Work done, Solution to the problem and Accuracy rate. After that 3 teams were given the top 3 prizes in which they were given the certificates and goodies from Microsoft.
It was a great experience for Nishant Kumar as a trainer at BITS, Pilani Campus. Along with teaching the BITS students, he also got to learn many new things and got an opportunity to show his skills on Azure, IoT and Machine Learning. Nishant Kumar got Rs 4000/- as Trainer from Microsoft.
The workshop was useful as the participants got an opportunity to learn about making effective use of the ICSSR resources and other software’s for making their libraries richer. Moreover, the participants also gathered knowledge about the ways of helping the library users to access e-resources for their higher studies and research work and also to develop adequate skills for catering to the growing information needs.
