Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017
This year Microsoft, India organized the Fifteenth edition of the Global competition - Imagine Cup at New Delhi, bringing about 27 finalists teams together from all over India to foster innovation among students in the country and enable them to transform their ambitions into reality. The competition was organized on 24th of April 2017 at Pride Plaza Hotel, New Delhi. In the Top 27 National Finalists, 9 Teams from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon were selected.
Imagine Cup is an initiative by Microsoft all about innovation, transformation and what comes next. It cultivates a spirit of social and technological entrepreneurship, empowering students to use their creativity to address real societal problems through technology. Imagine Cup is one of Microsoft’s efforts to transform skill development, nurture budding technologists and foster collaborative and innovative spirit. This global technology competition boasts of several success stories emerging from the competition.
The Competition was started with the Keynote Session by Mr. Vibhor Shrivastava (Manager, and Microsoft India). After the keynote session Mr. Narendra Bhandari, (General Manager, Developer Experience & Evangelism, Microsoft India), gave the description about the topic, “Imagine Cup is all about innovation, transformation” and what comes next. This year, Imagine Cup completed 15 years and they continue to cultivate a spirit of social and technological entrepreneurship, empowering students to use their creativity to address real societal problems through technology.
The Competition was conducted to select Top 4 projects among 30 finalists shortlisted from India. The Competition was to demonstrate the project and tells about a new innovation idea in the project. There were 12 jury members and each had an expertise in their domain. Microsoft team gave the brief knowledge about the Innovation and explained the importance of the technology in the day today life after which students have to give presentation and also the business plan of the projects in front of panel of judges.
After the presentation there was exhibition in which all the 27 teams demonstrated their projects. It was open for all the attendees to view and they could raise any queries to the teams. The exhibit was followed by a Welcome Address by Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi, Head Academic Initiatives, Microsoft India. Then a Panel Discussion by a group of distinguished panelists was held on the theme ‘Imagine India (Entrepreneurship and Innovation)’. The panelists were Mr. Miten Mehta, Co-founder, Spinta Global Accelerator; Dr. C Murali Krishna Kumar, Senior Advisor NITI Ayog; Mr. Ashish Gupta, Founder, Benori Ventures LLP Ashoka University; Mr. Vikram Upadhyaya, Chief Mentor, GHV Accelerator and Mrs. Sonu Bhasin, Managing Partner FAB. It was then declared as an open forum for the attendees to ask any questions they wanted from the panelists.
There was an eminent panel of jury from various fields including Accelerators, Eminent Professors from named institutes of BITS Pilani and IIT Delhi, Angel Investors and Venture Capitalists as well as Startup Founders.
It was a great learning experience for all the participants as well as attendees. It built their confidence and presentation skills.
