Session on GATE Preparation Strategies
11th January 2023
The Computer Science and Information Technology Department at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram, organized a session on "GATE Preparation" for 170 Third and Final year students to guide them in adopting effective strategies for excelling in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2023 (GATE 2023). The session offered valuable insights into the significance of the GATE exam, its role in pursuing higher education, career opportunities in public sector undertakings (PSUs), and gaining a competitive edge in the technical job market.
Dr. Shipra Arora (Faculty, DCE), was the session's eminent trainer. She began by explaining the exam's structure, marking scheme, and subject-wise weightage. She emphasized the importance of understanding the syllabus, analyzing previous years' question papers to identify key topics, and adopting a focused approach. Time management, problem-solving skills, and systematic study methods were highlighted as essential components of effective preparation.
To help students build a solid foundation, the session introduced various tools and resources, including standard textbooks, online learning platforms, and mock tests. Strategies to improve speed, accuracy, and minimize negative marking were also discussed. Special emphasis was placed on Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude, which are common to all branches and hold significant weightage in the exam.
Dr. Naveen shared motivational stories of GATE toppers, inspiring students to set clear goals and maintain discipline throughout their preparation. She encouraged students to create personalized study plans and evaluate their progress regularly through mock tests and practice sessions.
An interactive Q&A segment allowed students to seek guidance on preparation strategies, subject-specific challenges, and career opportunities after GATE. The session also detailed the advantages of achieving a high GATE score, such as admissions to premier institutions like IITs and NITs and opportunities in PSUs.
The session concluded with the distribution of preparation materials and suggestion to access to recommended online resources.
