Seminar on "Career options after Engineering"

SAE Collegiate Club of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon in association with Engineers Academy Pvt Ltd organized a seminar on “Career options after Engineering” on 23rd February 2017 for 6th Semester Mechanical Engineering Students.
The seminar started with the scopes for Engineers after graduation. The speaker told the students that after engineering scopes can be classified into three broad categories: Jobs, Higher studies and research and Management.
Mr. Pankaj Garg spoke on the eligibility criteria, vacancies, pattern, cut off for Engineering Services exam (ESE) conducted by UPSC, New Delhi. He also described the branches eligible for Engineering Services Examination. He told students to go for selective study to clear the exam. Most of the questions were asked from first three years of study in Engineering. He motivated students to have all concepts clear. He talked upon long term and short term revision plan. Then the talk was extended to Civil Services Examination (CSE) and the responsibilities of a Civil Servant (Member of civil services).
Later Mr. Pankaj Garg focused on GATE preparation. He told the importance of clearing GATE exam as almost all PSUs recruit through GATE. Also GATE opens the scope for students to go for M. Tech. from India and abroad. He also discussed on the pattern of exam and exam conducting institutes. He also covered the portion of GRE, TOEFL and GMAT which opens the option for students to study abroad.
In the last, Mr. Yogesh Namani talked on different recruitments by central and state governments. He communicated the students that they can also opt for SSC exams such as CGL and Junior Engineer and state SSC exams for Engineering as well as non-technical jobs. He told students to set small goals and get it done to gain confidence. Use that confidence to set next higher goal. He explained students not to go for higher goals directly. He talked on success mantra and gave the formula for success.

The session of 2 hours was very informative and motivating. The students interacted with the speakers for the career they should choose after B.Tech. They also asked what will happen to their technical knowledge if they can opt for non-technical jobs. The questions asked were satisfactorily answered by the speakers. In the last, Prof. Anil Kumar Gillawat, Head, Mechanical Engineering Department delivered vote of thanks to the speakers.
