FIVE DAY SHORT TERM COURSE ON "CYBER CRIME AND FORENSIC TOOLS THROUGH ICT"

Dronacharya College of Engineering Gurgaon in collaboration with NITTTR, Chandigarh conducted a five - day short term course on "Cyber Crime and Forensic Tools” under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) from 6th - 10th February 2017. 23 Faculty members & staffs from various Departments attended the short term course.

The inauguration was held in presence of Prof.( Dr.) Rama Krishna Challa, Head, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering & Mr. Amrendra Sharan, Jr. System Programmer, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering NITTTR Chandigarh. Thirty Seven institutes from all over India participated in the short term course. Prof. (Dr.) Rama Krishna Challa initiated the short term course by stating “Cyber Security is critical to protecting our Nation’s Infrastructure”. Then he highlighted the importance of Cyber security in present scenario and focused on the alarming matter that annual cost of cybercrime to the global economy is more than $4 billion.
During the inaugural address, Dr. Rama Krishna Challa presented search statistics from all over the world. He discussed, a crime committed using a computer and the internet to steal a person’s identity or stalk victims or disrupt operations with malicious programs is called Cyber Crime. He also focused on the matter that it is high time to take up necessary actions against Cyber Crime. Overview on types of Cyber Attacks and concepts of Symmetric & Asymmetric Key Cryptography was also discussed by him.

Dr. Gaurav Kumar, CEO-Magma Consultancy, Ambal addressed the centers with a brief of Cyberspace, Cybersquatting, Cyberwarfare & Cyberterrorism. In his discussion he explained Cyber Crime can be classified into 4 major categories as (1) Cyber crime against Individual (2) Cyber crime against Property (3) Cyber crime against Organization (4) Cyber crime against Society. Concepts of Email spoofing, Caller ID spoofing, IP spoofing had been also discussed. Dr. Gaurav Kumar also provided hands on session on Web Penetration Testing Using Open Source tools. He also explained XSS Scripting, Secure Coding, Obfuscation and Captcha for Web Security. Next session was headed by Mr. Vipin Gupta, Director, U-NET Solution, Moga. Mr. Vipin elaborated the concept of Malware detection and Counter measure.

Er. Saurabh Kaushal, NITTTR Start-Up Head discussed the concept of Cyberstalking. Cyberstalking is a crime in which the attacker harasses a victim using electronic communication, such as e-mail or instant messaging (IM), or messages posted to a Web site or a discussion group. He also discussed Credit Card Fraud, Intellectual Property crimes, Internet time theft. He also explained Website Defacement. It is an attack on a website that changes the visual appearance of the site or a webpage. NetCat, NCat & Wireshark concepts were also the topic of discussion. Next session was headed by Sh. Amit Doegar, NITTTR Chandigarh. He thoroughly discussed Security Implementation using Hypervisor.

Er. Saurabh Kaushal, discussed the concept of Data Diddling, which involves altering raw data just before it is processed by a computer and then changing it back after the processing is completed. Concept of logic bomb which is a piece of code intentionally inserted into a software system that will set off a malicious function when specified conditions are met, was also discussed by him. Authentication Bypass & Session Hijacking were also discussed. Mr. Amrendra Sharan, headed the next lunch session with discussion on OS Forensic.
10th February 2017
Mr. Amrendra Sharan, discussed Website Vulnerabilities & Counter Measure. Then, the valediction session was chaired by Prof.(Dr.) Rama Krishna Challa, & Mr. Amrendra Sharan.
Dr. B. M. K. Prasad, Principal, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon thanked and congratulated all the dignitaries from NITTTR and participants from all centers and expressed his gratitude to the chief guests.
The workshop was concluded by Mr. Amrendra Sharan with his valedictory speech.
Overall the workshop proved to be very fruitful as the participants learnt a lot about Cyber Crime and Security against it.
