WORKSHOP ON PYTHON
3rd - 4th February, 2017
CSI Students Chapter, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, in association with EDC-IIT Delhi under the banner of UTKRAANTI-2017 organized a workshop on “Python” from 3rd - 4th February 2017. The workshop was conducted by Wingfotech Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Nishant Shrivastava, Senior Research Engineer, YScart technologies was the trainer of the workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Vinod Kumar, Assistant Professor, IT and CSIT and student co-ordinators are Gaurav Mattas, Umesh Chandra and Aman Kumar.
The main objective of the workshop was to help students learn the basics of Python, to train students on designing an app on Python OS, and to help students to develop a game on Python and how to host it.
Mr. Nishant Shrivastava started the session with the introduction of Python. He explained that Python is a powerful high-level, object-oriented programming language created by Guido van Rossum. It has simple easy-to-use syntax, making it perfect language for someone trying to learn computer programming for the first time. Next he explained students how to install and use appropriate tools for Python development, including IDE, device emulator, and profiling tools.
Proceeding the session he explained, Python application architecture, including the roles of the task stack, activities, and services, build user interfaces with fragments, views, form widgets, text input, lists, tables, and more. Later he discussed the use of advanced UI widgets for scrolling, tabbing, and layout control. He also elaborated the students how to present menus via the Python action bar and handle menu selections.
There was a competition held on the second day (4th Feb 2017). The students were divided into teams and top 3 teams have made it to the Grand Finale of the fest Utkranti which will be organized by IIT Delhi.
Students learnt how to design, develop and deploy programs on Python platform. Students worked on really good concepts and came up with very good apps which were unique.

Sixth Semester students ABHINAV PATHAK (17890), UDBHAV SHARMA (17939), SHAKTI SINGH (17933) and SANJEEV KUMAR (17931) from CSIT Department secured second position. Fourth semester students SAURAV SHARMA(18550), YASHASWI GAUTAM (18566), HARSHIT SHARMA (18525) and PRANAY LIKHITKAR (18537) from CSE Department secured third position.
