CSI STATE STUDENT CONVENTION (SSC - 2017)
17th – 18th February, 2017
CSI Student Chapter of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized the CSI State Student Convention (SSC - 2017) on 17th – 18th February 2017. 204 teams from all over the Haryana have registered for the event.
The Computer Society of India (CSI) is the largest and most professionally managed association of and for IT professionals in India. The mission of CSI is to facilitate research, knowledge sharing, learning and career enhancement for all categories of IT professionals, while simultaneously inspiring and nurturing new entrants into the industry and helping them to integrate into the IT community.
The State Student Convention 2017 was organized to provide an opportunity for students to develop their skills as engineers and to showcase their talent. The event was sponsored by I3india & GraBooks, The Theme for the Convention was “Inventory Revolution in IT”. With the advent of advancements in technology and the multi-dimensional use of IT in today’s fast progressive world, it is extremely important for the students to understand its importance and usage.
The guests present during the Opening Ceremony of SSC 2017 were: Mr. Satish K Khosla, (Distinguished Speaker, Region-I, CSI), Mr. Shiv Kumar (Regional Vice President, CSI), Mr. Saurabh Agarwal (Regional Student Coordinator, Region-I, CSI) Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K. Prasad Principal, DCE, Gurgaon, Prof.(Dr.) K. K. Singh Dean Academics, DCE, Gurgaon Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Ruhil: CSI Head, DCE, Gurgaon HOD’s of all Departments and CSI Faculty Coordinators of all departments.
Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K. Prasad welcomed the eminent guests during the Opening Ceremony with bouquets and mementos. He briefed the gathering the purpose of the convention and the importance of such activities in an academic institution.
It was followed by a short teaser that showcased the events lined up for the SSC - 2017.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shiv Kumar said the activities of Computer Society of India were conducted for the students associated with the society includes lecture meetings, seminars, conferences, training programmes, programming contests and practical visits to installations. CSI has a strong Educational Directorate based at Chennai which undertakes activities related to Certification of professionals related to the latest technologies and at the same time it also ensures that regular training and skill updating are organised for the IT professionals. . He also discussed the various achievements and role of students in CSI activities.
Mr. Satish Kumar Khosla discussed Inventory revolution in Information Technology. He discussed his real life experiences and growth of IT during the period of his service. He continued saying the efficiency can be created through process design and innovation across various cost centres of the business like marketing, inventory & supply, technology, manpower, logistics & shipping etc. Marketplace approach towards inventory is one such innovation designed to reduce risk and costs & provide efficiency to an online business.
The Keynote Speaker, Mr. Saurabh Agarwal discussed the theme of the Student Convention – “Inventory Revolution in IT”. He stressed on the Latest Developments in Technology & changes in societal behaviour. He focused on individual meanings of all words and went on to talk real life experiences which very well emphasized how the youth of today is really becoming empowered by the proper usage of IT. He described internet of things is the network of physical objects that contains embedded technology to communicate and sense or interact with the objects' internal state or the external environment.” By 2020, a home could have more than 500 smart objects collaborating in a personal Internet of Things. Then he focused on the priority of the today’s generation like internet, Mobile phone, Wifi and cars.
The events conducted during SSC 2017: Code Debugging, Fact & furious, LAN Party, Poster Presentation, Android Application Project Competition and Treasure Hunt.
The various events were organized with the aim to give a platform to students to explore their technical knowledge and expertise with the angle of fun at State Level.
The Code Debugging event was organized to judge the coding and programming skills of students and give them a feel of global exposure. 75 students participated in the event. After 2 rounds of the event, the winners of the event were: Nitin Manocha and Ritik Kaul of DCE, Gurgaon.
Project Competition was organized to enhance the knowledge of student and motivate them to compete in the global competitive engineering field and they can make awareness about fast growing technologies, its real applications in industries, knowing about other’s innovations, building of their inherent abilities and improvement of their communication is possible by shearing of their knowledge to the others. The results of the event were as follows:
The project titled “Smart Street Lightning System” secured 1st position. The project titled “Server Automation” by Arushi Anand, Srishti Syal, Abhimanyu and Mriganko of DCE secured 2nd position. The project titled “Smart Parking System” by Navpreet, Singh Mandeep Singh of DCE secured 3rd position.
The LAN Party event aimed to test the gaming skills of the students and help them think on the lines which are expected by companies for placements. Five games were organized under the event. The Poster Presentation event was organized with the aim to assess the awareness level of the students with an artistic tinge on the theme was Technological Development through IT/ Inventory revolution in IT/ Innovation in Information Technology & Computer Science which talks of the current the current development in the field of IT.
The winners of the event were: Rohan Gupta of DCE secured 1st position. Shivani Rao of DCE secured 2nd position. Rajat of DCE and Varsha of Govt. P.G College secured 3rd position.
Fact & Furious, a technical quiz organized to showcase the student's technical knowledge that deals with current technology aspects. The Treasure Hunt event was number of small fun activities to entertain students apart from technical activity. The event involves about solving clues, puzzles and riddles and thus putting the knowledge and logical skills to test.
Android Application provides the student a platform to share and learn about Android, the world’s most popular mobile platform that powers hundreds of millions of mobile devices in more than 190 countries around the world. In the event the students have to share their ideas into mobile applications.
Overall the 2 days of SSC - 2017 were packed with lot of technical activities for students. During the closing ceremony (on 18th February 2017), Hon’ble Principal presented trophies to the winners and certificates to all participants who participated in the events. SSC 2017 gave the students a platform for learning the upcoming IoT technology and the coordinators received positive feedback from the participants.
