Workshop on “Google Rush”

The GDG Group of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized a one-day workshop “Google Rush” at Kalyan Sr. Sec. School, Ujina, Nuh on 22nd February2017.
Google Developer Group Dronacharya College of Engineering, a sub - chapter of GDG New Delhi, provides a place where programmers and learners hangout to learn and impart knowledge about various Google technologies.
The objective of the workshop was to spread awareness about the Google Developer Groups and various Google products like Gmail, YouTube, Space, Google+, and Android etc. 35 students from 11th & 12th standard participated in the event.
The GDG team was welcomed by the workshop coordinator at the school, Mr. Deepak Sahu (Faculty, Science Dept.). The event commenced with an opening address by Ms. Bhanu Sahu (Chemistry Faculty) who introduced the GDG team to the students and motivated them to gain the maximum from the workshop. Ms. Parul Bansal (Mentor, GDG Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon) discussed with the participants the motive behind organizing the workshop and a brief introduction on Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon and Google Developers Group of Dronacharya.
The GDG Team took several sessions and the first session of the event covered the aspects of Google Spaces by Shubham Rauthan (17777, VI Sem, ECS). Spaces is a proprietary cross-platform application for group discussions and messaging developed by Google. The app is intended as a content sharing platform where users can create a "space", invite their friends for discussion, and share videos, images, text, and other media. Google services such as the web browser Chrome, search engine Google Search, and video sharing platform YouTube are built into the app to allow users to source content from them.
The next session was on YouTube by Sanatan Jha (17127, VI Sem, CSE) and he explained how the YouTube services were introduced to the Web, its various standards uploading schemes and quality print along with the various statistics and how YouTube is trending now-a-days. The importance and impact of YouTube channels for study & academic purpose were also discussed.
A quick knowledge quiz “Identify Google Product” was introduced where students were shown icons of various Google Products and they had to name the maximum. Various goodies were given to the students in these.
The next session was an informative session on Gmail by Amit Saini (16763, VIII Sem, ECS) where a brief introduction on Gmail and the history of Gmail was discussed with the students. Gmail can be easily integrated with other Google services which offer ease and flexibility to users. The session also included the various features of Gmail and its versions Gmail Blue and Priority inbox and their working. The participants were also introduced to various services like Google Events, Hangout on Air, Google Pages etc. Terms like circles, streams and user settings were also explained along with the benefits of using Gmail through interactive animated videos.
A hands-on session for creating a Gmail account was given by Akansha Marwah (16762, VIII Sem, ECS). She also discussed Google Drive, its various products like Docs, Slides, and Google Forms and features like Google Cloud and providing cloud security were explained.
In the end, a video of college was shown to the students and Shweta Saini (16773, VIII Sem, ECS) discussed with the students the various opportunities and platforms provided by the college for students along with the several collaborations.
After the event, the GDG team received positive response from the school and online feedback form for the event was shared with them where they have given good ratings for the different sessions.
