Azure Discovery Training Session at BITS Pilani

A six days Azure Discovery Training Session was organised by Microsoft at BITS, Pilani Campus from 11th September 2017 to 16th September 2017. As Dronacharya College of Engineering is one of the MICs in North India, Nishant Kumar (17096) from Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon along with a Microsoft trainer Osheen Chavhan went to the training session as a trainer from Microsoft.
Microsoft organised an Azure Discovery Training Session in which students were taught first the basics of Azure, how to deploy a WebApp on Azure, and then how to connect a virtual server using Virtual Machine and Prediction using Machine Learning.
The training program was divided into 7 parts including topics Azure, WebApps, Virtual Machine and Machine Learning.
First of all students were told how to activate an account on Azure and they were all given a unique key for their Azure account subscription. All the students activated their account in Azure. Then students were taught how to publish a site to Azure using Web Matrix which was then followed by a lab session and Nishant was helping the students in performing the same. Then hosting a website using FTP client server and windows explorer was explained. Next lab session was conducted by Nishant.
Next day, students were taught the basics of Virtual Machine. Then they were taught how to connect virtual server to their local machine using Azure Virtual Machine. They were also introduced to Azure ML Studio and were taught how to train a model using Azure ML Studio and predict the output using some data sets.
Students from various departments, i.e. Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Computer Science were present in the training program and participated in hackathon. They were divided into teams of 3. After the hackathon was over, all the students presented their model and Nishant Kumar and Osheen judged them on various criteria which included concept, technology used, work done, solution to the problem and accuracy rate. Top 3 teams were given the certificates and goodies from Microsoft.
It was a great experience for Nishant Kumar as a trainer at BITS, Pilani Campus. He also got to learn many new things and got an opportunity to showcase his skills on Azure, IoT and Machine Learning.
