Industrial Visit to IOCL

The ImechE India branch had organized an industrial visit to “IOCL refinery, Mathura” on 2nd September 2017. Himanshu Bahukhandi (17384) and Robin Parmar (17451), ImechE Student Chapter, representative of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram visited the industry.
All the representatives were welcomed by IOCL people. Firstly, project engineers and project head of IOCL had an interaction session with all the representatives. They presented a presentation on the history of IOCL as well as its contribution towards Indian economy and how crude oil is converted into petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG etc. Then another presentation was given by the safety manager of IOCL on safety measures involved in safeguarding such a sensitive organization as well its personnel and equipments.
In the second session, representatives went for refinery onsite visit. They visited some refinery departments such as Fluidized Catalyst Cracking Unit (FCCU), Visbreaker Unit (VBU) and Bitumen Blowing Unit (BBU) in the secondary units. They also visited primary old unit and saw various blowers, columns, heat exchanger, pumps etc. At last representatives visited control rooms where computers were used for automatic process monitoring.
It was exciting and unforgettable experience for all the representatives to witness workings and applications of mechanical engineering onsite .
