The first Face to Face Interaction of the IIT, Bombay Professors with the students using A-View was held at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon ( RC Id- 1216 ) on 9th September 2017 wherein a total of 130 final year students from different engineering domains along with faculty coordinators attended the program with great enthusiasm. IIT Bombay designed a series of short courses under the 'College to Corporate' program. The program was organised from 7th September 2017- 12th November 2017.
The main objective of the program was to bridge the gap between requirements of the industry and the skills of the students.
The College to Corporate Program consists of two short courses- Soft Skills and Workplace Development. The program primarily targeted at final year students, to help them prepare for the corporate world, and perform better in the recruitment process. Corporate recruiting the final year students have certain expectations from their prospective employees. If the students are made aware of these expectations and the skills required fulfilling these expectations, their journey from College to Corporate would become easier. The program will be conducted using the hybrid/blended MOOCs pedagogy developed at IIT Bombay. In this approach, participants learn online, as also through face-to-face interaction. The course content would be made available on the Hybrid MOOCs platform (http://iitbombayx.in). The students would be required to do the online activity before and after the face-to-face interaction (through A-VIEW). In each course, the face-to-face interaction will be conducted fortnightly during the weekends. In additions, student will be required to complete weekly activities in their college (RC).
The program was inaugurated by Prof. Deepak Pathak of IIT, Bombay. He welcomed his teaching faculty: Prof. Virendra Sethi, Centre for Environmental Science, Engg., IIT Bombay and Prof. Leena Jha, Shailesh J Mehta, School of Management, IIT Bombay, Prof. D. Parthasarathy, Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Bombay, Prof. Rajesh Zele, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT, Bombay, Prof. Varsha Apte, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay.
In the first session on Soft Skills, Prof. Virendra Sethi and Prof. Leena Jha discussed making a successful transition from campus to corporate which is the most exciting and phenomenal step in one’s life and should be handled with utmost care. He also described the unspoken nuances and social norms that many graduates are completely unaware of the professional environment. Possessing better soft skills, requisite technical skills, effective communication skills and a winning resume will help the student to face the interview with utmost confidence.
In the second session on Workplace Communication, Prof. D. Parthasarathy emphasized on professional communication and conduct during meetings in offices. He also elaborated on the importance of the way one dresses up, the way one carries himself, being some of the important personality traits that set the tone for future success on the part of the employer. In today's competitive market these factors are very essential to get the job. He concluded, entering the corporate playing field provides a range of new challenges, all of which call for graduates to display accountability, professionalism and credibility.
The Soft Skills session gave students the insight about their personality while the Workplace Communication session briefed them about the professional communication and conduct. Overall it was informative program
