Workshop on Cancer Awareness
17th October 2025
NSS Units of Dronacharya College of Engineering (DCE), Gurugram, in collaboration with DKMS Foundation India, successfully organized a Cancer Awareness and Blood Stem Cell Donor Registration Drive on 17th October 2025, at the DCE campus. Mr. Rahul Raj from DKMS Foundation of India was the spoke person. DKMS Foundation India is a globally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to combating blood cancer and other blood disorders. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need for stem cell donors in India and encouraged students and faculty to contribute to this life-saving cause. Over 100 NSS volunteers actively participated in the drive, registering themselves as potential stem cell donors.
The primary objective of the initiative was to address the challenge of finding compatible stem cell donors for the 130,000 new blood cancer cases diagnosed annually in India. Through the collaboration with DKMS Foundation India, which currently maintains a registry of over 200,000 donors, the drive sought to educate students and faculty about the life-saving potential of blood stem cell donation, motivate voluntary registrations, and foster a sense of social responsibility among participants. The program emphasized the need to expand the Indian donor pool to increase the chances of successful matches for patients in need.
Mr. Rahul Raj and Team from DKMS Foundation India delivered a detailed presentation on blood cancer, the donor registration process, and inspiring success stories of over 200 lives saved through their registry. Following the awareness session, volunteers underwent a quick and non-invasive buccal swab testing procedure to officially register as potential stem cell donors. The session also empowered participants with accurate knowledge to dispel myths around donation and equipped them to spread awareness effectively within their communities.
The Cancer Awareness and Blood Stem Cell Donor Drive highlighted the ability of youth to make a tangible impact on critical public health issues. It allowed the NSS volunteers to contribute meaningfully while reinforcing the college’s commitment to social service. The program also encouraged participants to carry forward the message of donor registration beyond the campus, fostering a culture of awareness and humanitarian action.
