NPTEL Short - Term - Workshop on “Analysis–I”

Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized a one-day Short-Term Workshop on “Analysis–I”offered by NPTELon 11^thOctober 2025, conducted by Dr. Hari Shankar Mahato, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur on Remote. A total of 48 First Year students and 3 faculty members actively participated in the program. The session aimed to provide a rigorous introduction to the foundational principles of real analysis, focusing on strengthening conceptual understanding and analytical reasoning among undergraduate students.

The workshop was divided into two sessions: Session I (10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) and Session II (3:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.). Prof. Dixita Barua served as the faculty coordinator. The session combined theoretical lectures with intuitive problem-solving and visual interpretations to make abstract mathematical ideas more accessible. Dr. Mahato, who has an extensive research background in Partial Differential Equations, Applied Analysis, and Mathematical Biology, shared insights from his international academic and research experience, making the workshop intellectually enriching.

Key topics covered included Mean Value Theorems, Taylor’s and Maclaurin’s Theorems, Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, Improper Integrals, Multiple Integrals, and Vector Calculus concepts such as gradient, curl, and divergence. The workshop emphasized the interrelation of calculus, analysis, and differential equations, demonstrating their significance in both pure and applied mathematics. Students were also exposed to techniques like Leibnitz’s Rule, Jacobian transformations, and Euler’s Theorem.

Participants appreciated the interactive format and clarity of instruction. The workshop significantly enhanced students’ understanding of real analysis and improved their problem-solving and visualization skills, especially for higher studies and competitive exams like GATE, JAM, and NET. The session concluded with positive feedback, acknowledging Dr. Mahato’s engaging pedagogy and the department’s efforts in organizing a valuable academic experience that deepened analytical thinking and mathematical maturity among students.
