The event was divided into seven sessions by six eminent speakers : Mr. Amit R S Bansal, from SQL Maestros, Mr. Aneek Arora from Microsoft, Mr. Ahmad Osama from SQL Maestros, Rahul Dutta from Microsoft, Mr. Sarabpreet Singh Anandfrom SQL Server Geeks and Mr. Prince Rastogi from SQL Server Geeks. The topics that were discussed in various sessions were : New features in the SQL Server 2016, Leveraging Microsoft BI Solution for Data Insights, SQL Server Cardinality Estimation, and Resource Governor.
Session 1: Leveraging Microsoft BI Solution for Data Insights by Mr. Aneek Arora
In his session Aneek Arora told integrated view of redefined Microsoft BI platform Strategy to cover integrated view of entire suite of capabilities. He explained about the Microsoft solution that are helpful in delivering superior capabilities while leveraging both on-premise and cloud offerings.
Session 2: SQL Server Cardinality Estimation by Mr. Amit R S Bansal
Mr. Bansal explained how the SQL Query Optimizer produces those awesome execution plans. There was also a demo session that shows the magic and complexity behind cardinality estimator of SQL Server.
Session 3: Multidimensional Modelling by Mr. Ahmad Osama
“MOLAP” is discussed in the third session by Mr. Ahmad Osama. In his one hour demo session, he explained, to model data with MOLAP. Mr. Osama also explained to define data sources, dimensions, attributes, relationships, hierarchies and cubes with SQL Server Data tools.
Session 4: In-Memory Database Technologies by Mr. Rahul Dutta
Mr. Dutta explained “In memory database (IMDBs)” which is also called as main memory. He told that applications where response time is critical, such as those running telecommunications network equipment and mobile advertising networks, use main-memory databases. IMDBs have gained a lot of traction, especially in the data analytics space, due to its multi-core processors that can address large memory and less expensive RAM.
Session 5: SQL Server Wait Stats – A Magical Wand to Solve Performance Issues by Mr. Sarabpreet Singh Anand
SQL Wait Statistics was explained by Mr. Sarabpreet Singh Anand. He told SQL Wait statistics can be the best solution for problems regarding performance issues or finding the root cause of the delay, as it knows about the performance issue and the underlying cause, it’s just that we need to ask SQL and understand its language.
Session 6: Things That You Don’t Know About SQL Server by Mr. Prince Rastogi
Mr. Prince Rastogi in his session told few very interesting aspects of SQL Server database engine that even Google cannot find.
Session 7: Resource Governor for IO by Mr. Amit R S Bansal
Mr. Amit Bansal demonstrated how to implement Resource Governor to configure resource limits in a comprehensive manner including IO and guarantee predictable performance for different tenants. In addition to this he also explained, enhancements to Extended Events framework and disk specific counters that have been added SQLServer:Resource Pool Stats.
Microsoft SQL Server Geeks was really a knowledgeable and fruitful event for the participants.
