SEVEN DAYS NSS ANNUAL CAMP ON YOGA AND SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAAN
2nd to 8th March 2016
The NSS (National Service Scheme) unit of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organised a seven day camp from 2nd to 8th March 2016 on the theme Yoga and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.
The objective of this camp was to make people aware about the practice of Yoga and to make them aware about the need of toilets, solid and liquid waste disposal systems, village cleanliness etc. The National Service Scheme (NSS) aims at developing the inner potentialities and transforming the students to fit into the society.
The NSS Volunteers of the college particularly worked in “Khentawas”, the village adopted by them for eradication of illiteracy, watershed management and wasteland development, agricultural operations, health, nutrition, hygiene, sanitation, mother and child care, family life education, gender justice, development of rural cooperatives, savings drives, construction of rural roads, campaign against social evils etc.
During the inauguration ceremony on 2nd March 2016, the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Principal Col (Dr.) Karanjit Singhencouraged the volunteers of NSS. He stated that it is essential for everyone to learn about yoga,cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation and the various diseases that are caused due to poor hygienic conditions. He appealed to the Dronacharyans to devote their time for this drive.
On the second day, the NSS Volunteers were explained about First Aid by Mr. Dharamveer in the campus. He explained fractures and method to tie a bandage to an injured person. Also an EYE CARE session by Dr. Vivek Garg (Ophthalmologist, Vasan Eye Care) was organized for the Staff (Teaching, Non - teaching & Misc Staff) in the college campus.
On the third day, the volunteers visited Om Shanti Retreat Centre of Brahmakumari’s (ORC) at Bhorakalan, Gurgaon. The volunteers attended a lecture on Mind Management by Ms. Bhawna. The lecture was for the overall development of the volunteers. During the lecture, she explained how to control one’s mind, how to meditate and rest oneself. It was followed by the volunteers carrying out the cleanliness drive.
On the fourth day of the camp, the NSS volunteers conducted a drawing and quiz competition with an objective to spread awareness on Yoga and Swacch Bharat among the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Khentawas.The participants were given a sheet, colours and pencil to show their creativity. After an hour, the results were announced. This was followed by prize distribution ceremony for the quiz and drawing competition. All students were awarded for their talent. It was followed by a series of lecture on cleanliness and hygiene by the NSS volunteers.
On the fifth day of the camp, the volunteers visited a slum area. They demonstrated Yoga to the children there. They were taught the importance of Yoga. The volunteers sang the national anthem after the session was over.
Cleanliness Drive by NSS volunteers
On the sixth day again there was a visit to the same slum area. This time the slum area students practiced Yoga under the supervision of NSS Volunteers. They were educated about sanitation, water - supply, nutrition etc. The NSS Volunteersdonated clothes, stationery items, fruits etc to encourage those participants.
On 8th March 2016, the closing ceremony was organised where the start of ceremony was marked by the NSS song sung by the volunteers. The briefing of the NSS seven day camp was presented to the Chief Guest Col.(Dr.) Karanjit Singh. After this, there were two skits performed by NSS volunteers on youth empowerment and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan,respectively. On the closing ceremony, Prof.(Dr.) Sri Krishan Yadav, Mrs. Rita Yadav NSS Program Officer, Dr. Sunil Mishra and other dignitaries were also present.
The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. Ashok Kumar, NSS Program Officer, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon. In his short speech he expressed his gratitude to the Principal and NSS volunteers for supporting NSS in taking remarkable steps towards social welfare.
