Guest Lecture on “Database Management System (DBMS)”

Dronacharya College of Engineerig organized a Guest Lecture on Database Management System (DBMS) in association with “WeBind” on 11th March 2016 at college campus. The session was organized to give students brief overview of scope and career options in Database management. Students from CSE department attended the session. The session was conducted by Mr Akhil Merchant (Senior Sybase & Microsoft Certified) MSSQL having rich experience of 13 years asSybase DBA and MSSQL DBA.
Mr. Akhil started the session with brief introduction about Database Management System. Database Management system (DBMS) is software that handles the storage, retrieval and updating of data in a computer system. DBMS is a computer software application that interacts with the user, other applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze data. A general - purpose DBMS is designed to allow the definition, creation, querying, update, and administration of databases.
Mr. Akhil explained that DBMS market report is segmented on the basis of database, software, deployment types, user types, industry verticals, and region. He further added database can be further categorized as Relational and Non - Relational. The software is sub - segmented as database application builder, data scaling and replication, backup and recovery, and database encryption. Further the deployment type is categorized into cloud and on - premises.
Mr. Akhil discussed latest trends / technology used in database management system that is system integration, cross platform and cross product migration, SQL Azure and cloud computing and Data warehousing . A data warehouse is a subject - oriented, integrated, time - variant and non - volatile collection of data in support of management's decision making process. Subject - Oriented : A data warehouse can be used to analyze a particular subject area. He further explained DBMS is different in terms of complexity of requirements and volume of the data and transactions.
This session was highly useful to the students as they got familiarized on the DBMS tools and Operating system. In the endMr Akhil concluded the session by giving interview tips to students.
