Visit to IIT Delhi Open House
8th November 2025
Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized an educational visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi for the 20th Open House event held on 8th November 2025. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Kunal and included 50 first-year students from the CSE, IoT, IT, AIML, ECE, and ECS branches. The objective of the visit was to expose students to cutting-edge research, innovation culture, and the academic environment of a premier engineering institute. The Open House served as a platform where prospective students, parents, teachers, and industry guests interacted with IIT Delhi researchers and students.
The group reached the IIT Delhi campus and completed the registration and badge collection process at the welcome desk. Students attended the welcome session and introductory talks, where they learned about the institute’s achievements and its vision for future technologies. They then explored various laboratories, key academic buildings, and research facilities, along with exhibition stalls showcasing student-led innovations and live demonstrations.
The Open House featured an impressive range of innovative research and real-world problem-solving projects. One exhibit demonstrated how post-consumer denim waste can be recycled into thermal liners by blending it with hollow polyester fibre, representing a sustainability-focused industrial application. Another major attraction was a paediatric surgical simulator developed in collaboration with medical experts to support surgical skill training. Students also observed an X-ray diffraction setup which clearly depicted differences between crystalline and amorphous structures, thus helping them understand the impact of molecular arrangement on material properties. The event showcased the importance of interdisciplinary learning, as many projects integrated concepts from materials science, electronics, biomedical engineering, and sustainability.
Throughout the visit, students closely observed the academic and social environment at IIT Delhi. They noticed the strong emphasis on student-driven research, creativity, and hands-on learning. The presence of enthusiastic student volunteers made complex scientific ideas easy to understand even for school-level visitors. Discussions by the institute’s leadership, including the Director, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, highlighted that IIT Delhi aims to strengthen its engagement with society and industry through research that addresses contemporary global challenges. Several projects on display indicated a readiness for industrial collaboration and scalability, showing the institute’s focus on societal benefit.
The experience was highly educational and motivating. Students appreciated the modern infrastructure, advanced laboratories, and the conducive research environment available at IIT Delhi. They felt inspired to explore future career pathways connected to emerging technologies and to identify research groups or laboratories that align with their personal interests. The visit also made them aware of the importance of innovation, sustainability, and interdisciplinary collaboration for professional development.
