SenseFil Technologies organized a two day workshop on "Six Sense Reality" at "Bits Pilani, Hyderabad Campus"during their fest "Atmos'15" on 10th-11th October 2015. Mr. Akshit Chauhan (15007) of CSE department fromDronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon delivered the session on Six Sense Reality.
Akshit Chauhan in his lecture explained the concept of six sense. He said that SixthSense' is a wearable gestural interface that augments the physical world around us with digital information and lets us use natural hand gestures to interact with that information. He further explained that the SixthSense prototype implements several applications that demonstrate the usefulness, viability and flexibility of the system. The concept was developed at MIT Media Lab by Steve Mann in 1994 and1997 (headworn gestural interface), and 1998 (neckworn version), and further developed by Pranav Mistry at MIT Media Lab.
Mr. Akshit discussed on the difference between Augmented Reality, Sixth Sense and Artificial Intelligence. He said that Augmented Reality is augmentation (supplementation) of real time image by providing more information about any image/object the device is pointed to, by registering them and based on the GPS location& direction of the compass inputing information about that object from web. But Sixth Sense is basically a gesture supporting device which takes input through our various gestures, capturing them through a neck-hung camera and thus accomplishing the commands. On the other hand Artificial Intelligence is something about calculating the best possible and the most probable move to be executed by the device based on algorithms supported by previous data record and the one registered in the system.
The SixthSense technology contains a pocket projector, and a camera contained in a head-mounted, handheld or wearable device. Both the projector and the camera are connected to a mobile computing device in the user’s pocket. The projector projects visual information enabling surfaces, walls and physical objects around to be used as interfaces; while the camera recognizes and tracks users' hand gestures and physical objects using computer-vision based techniques.
He also pointed out some of the advantages of Sixth sense reality. These are as:
1. Portability: The prototype of the Sixth Sense is designed in such a way that it gives more importance to the portability factor.
2. Cost Effective: The cost incurred for the construction of the Sixth Sense prototype is quite low. It is made from parts collected together from common devices.
3. Data access directly from the machines in real time: With the help of a Sixth Sense device the user can easily access data from any machine at real time speed.
Workshop concluded with feedback session from the Participants. Akshit Chauhan was appreciated for his session and was presented Momento.
