A Seminar by Ofssam: Bridging the Skills Gap

Department of Computer Science & Engineering, of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organised a seminar on “Bridging the Skills Gap” by the team of “Ofssam” on 27th August 2015. The objective of the seminar was to train the students through project based programme and make them job-ready for the industry.
Mr. Sushil Rana, Founder & Creative Head, Ofssam provided an overview of Apache Hadoop, along with its applications to achieve business goals. He emphasized on the Hadoop Ecosystem and its role in the world of big data analytics. He introduced various new technologies such as MapReduce, Yarn, Hive, Hbase, Oozie and Sqoop and which are in huge demand for Big Data Analysts in every major IT Company, but very limited workforce is available for the same. He discussed about OLP (Ofssam’s Proprietary Cloud based learning system), which can be used to access lab activities, quizzes, ask-the-instructor channel and discussion form. This is a sophisticated system, which automatically evaluates students work to make sure it adheres to industry best practices and provides them suggestions for improvements.
He highlighted on the agile methodology and software development life cycle which is used in the companies. Various software development tools such as JQuery, JQuery UI, SQL Server, IIS, Visual Studio, Eclipse and frameworks such as Bootstrap, Web API, NUnit, Lonic, SignalR were also discussed during the session.
Mr. Rana explained about business etiquettes and business interactions, along with object oriented design, design pattern, separation of concerns, modular and scalable design, MVC Architecture. He discussed various tricks that can be used to solve the aptitude questions in a short duration. He also explained graphical problems and reasoning questions.
The seminar was very interactive and student learnt a lot about new technologies.
