Industrial Visit to Escorts Group

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Delhi organized an industrial visit to “The Escorts Group” on 2nd April 2016. 25 participants from both academic as well as from participating industries joined the visit. Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon was represented by seven students, accompanied by faculty member Mr. Anil Kumar Gillawat from Mechanical Engineering Department.
The Escorts Group is an Indian Engineering Company that operates in the following sectors: Escorts Agri Machinery, Escorts Construction Equipment, Escorts Railway Products and Escorts Auto Products. The company has marketing operations in more than 40 countries.
Mr. Ravi Shanker Kochak, Assistant Manager - Production Unit, Indian Railways welcomed the team members and gave the introductory speech. He shared his knowledge of production in Indian railways throughout the visit. The DCE team was highly inspired and motivated by the experience shared and the lecture delivered by Mr. Kochak.
Mr. Karan Bhatia, Business Analyst, Escorts Group guided the team through the plant. The students were joined by groups from other colleges. The students were taken to conference room and a brief introduction of company and its working culture was given. Then, the team was divided in two groups and was taken to the shop floor.
During the visit to Escorts Agri Machinery plant, the students were exposed to both conventional as well as advanced shops. The doubts were cleared by the assigned technical person.
Next the students visited the Escorts Railway Products division. A presentation regarding the railway products manufactured was given before the visit. During the visit to railway product division, the students came across the following products and their testing. These included:-
- Brake Systems - Air brake system, Electro Pneumatic Brake systems, Distributer Valves.
- Couplers - Buffer Coupler, Semi Permanent Couplers.
- Suspension System - Shockers and Dampers.
- Vestibules - Conventional / LHB.
- Testing Equipment and Rig.
The visit was useful for the entire team as they got a practical industrial exposure. The students were highly benefited from the visit as they got exposure to advanced technologies such as CNCs, industrial automation as well as conventional technologies.
