International Women's Day 2018 Celebrations

Microsoft Innovation Centre, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized a special programme to celebrate the 23rd International Women's Day on 8th March 2018.
The theme for Women's Day was #PressForProgress which was lived up to its title in its complete essence.
The Women's Day was organized to motivate the girl students and raise awareness about the struggles of women all over the world and honor their achievements. The day also marked a call for action to accelerate gender parity.
The guests present during the Opening Ceremony of SSC 2017 were: Chief Guest: Dr. Uma Chauhan, Director, Electronics and IT, Govt. of India Guest of Honor: Dr. Yogita Shukla, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering Ms. Tamanna Rohatgi, Business Analyst, Bureau Consumer Product Services and Alumni of 2013 batch. HODs and Faculty.
The function was inaugurated with an exemplary dance performance by the girls of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon. Next the students welcomed the dignitaries by presenting bouquets to them.
The day was started by an inspiring short film that showcased achievements of women in different spheres glorifying their role in the society. It also catered to the campaign started by Microsoft YouthSpark Hub #PressForProgress.
The celebrations involved several cultural dance performances from various departments of the college. The groups of students put forth striking performances in colourful costumes and attractive backgrounds added a touch of sophistication. The performances opened with a Punjabi fusion group dance by girls to welcome the guests.
Next an enticing speech was given by the, Dr. Uma Chauhan. She motivated the girls with her words of wisdom about women's contribution in various fields of the society including science, technology and education. She, being the Director of Electronics and IT Department in Govt. of India emphasized on the ongoing e-projects of the government like Digital Locker. She urged all to have one Digital Locker on their name.
Later Dr. Yogita Shukla described her experiences highlighting her journey from an engineering student to the phenomenal position of a professor. She explained how important it is for women to venture into different fields and make their mark. She also said that the thought process of women should change and each woman should respect other woman. Ms. Tamanna Rohatgi, spoke about her experiences from an aspiring student to a successful business analyst.
During the closing ceremony, Hon'ble HODs of various departments presented mementoes to the guests who spared their valuable time from their busy schedules and shared their expertise and words of wisdom with the girls and motivated them to raise their rights.
With all the joy and enthusiasm filled in everyone's heart, reached the end of the celebrations with a cake cutting session ceremony.
All the speakers lauded the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women in the last three decades and felt that the day was also a reminder of their responsibility to achieve gender equality.
