Three Days Workshop on Virtual Labs Development
28th - 30th June 2017
Mrs. Dimple Saproo Virtual Lab Nodal Coordinator ,Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended 3 - days workshop on “Virtual Labs Development” organized by Nodal Center, at Vidyalankar Institute of Technology (VIT), Mumbai in association with India Institute of Technology (IIT, Bombay) from 28th - 30th June 2017.
The main objective of the workshop was to design and build the Virtual Lab Platform and Service infrastructure, including development, repository management, testing and the hosting of the Lab.
Day 1 (28th June 2017)
The program commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony followed by introduction and felicitation of Resource Persons by Prof. Geetha Narayanan, Nodal Coordinator, VIT Mumbai.
Eminent Resource Persons were
- Mr. Pushpdeep Mishra, Project Manager, Virtual Labs IIT Bombay.
- Prof. Mrs. Anita Divakar Research Scholar, IIT Bombay.
- Prof. Manish Nagoshe, Regional Technical Coordinator Virtual Lab, PVG Pune
- Mr. Jai Mathur, Research Assistant IIT Bombay
- Prof. Tanuja Khatavkar , Nodal Coordinator Virtual Lab, PVG Pune
The session started with the presentation by Mrs. Anita Divakar where she highlighted the Pedagogy Aspects, importance of setting learning outcomes, design of story board for your virtual lab and advantages of using a guided approach in designing the experiments. She also briefed objective specified by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and Revised Bloom’s taxonomy (RBT).
Later lecture on introduction of GIT Lab was taken by Mr. Pushdeep Mishra and Mr. Jai Mathur. They briefed Git Lab installing procedures, creating new Repository and the procedure for using Gitlab. Mr. Pushdeep Mishra also demonstrated the process of pushing and pulling the source code present in the software to and from GitLab. The participants were introduced to the two important concepts of gitlab that are branching and forking
In the next session the participants were briefed about the HTML by Prof. M.C. Nagoshe, Regional technical Coordinator - VLABS, PVG’s COET Pune .He also explained the use of Microsoft Expression Web 4 for creation of web pages for various applications of Virtual lab design. Hands on Training on creation of HTML page for the virtual lab, creation of tables, inclusion of symbols; Buttons on a web page were also given to the Participants. The participants had written various codes in Java for different application, like use of Button, Linkage of Graph in Webpage.
Day 2 (29th June 2017)
Session was started by Prof. M. C. Nagoshe. She explained the various application development using HTML and JAVA SCRIPT in the design of virtual lab were explained. Hands on Training on HTML and Java Script required for creating graphs and pictures in HTML and to create diagrams through Mouse click were also demonstrated.
Exercises to create various shapes and to translate and rotate the diagram &Animation in HTML, CSS3 and Java Script were solved by the participants. The session gave an insight into looping techniques, simple functions (call and definition), Loops- for, do while and data structures like arrays, lists and their usage. Along with this, it also included the live simulations of numerical data sets, hands-on training on HTML programming that includes basic programs like creating a dynamic table set and basics of sketching in html5 by using various frameworks
Day 3 (30 June 2017)
This session was the hands-on session on HTML5 training by Prof. M. C. Nagoshe. He explained with short examples on sketching and dynamic object movements. Parallely, the participants were given introduction to animation using HTML5 . A group activity was performed by the participants. The groups were given two modules of different domains and they had to complete the Project. The session was followed by the introduction on Google Web Designer (GWD) software by Prof. Tanuja Khatavkar .She explained the practical application of the software , and the tools used to make the animationA few hands on assignments during the session made it easy for the Participants to understand the software.
The workshop ended by the vote of thanks and the distribution of the certificate by the Dean of Faculty of Technology and Engineering Prof. S. S. Bhattacharya of VIT College.
