Three students, Himanshu Bahukhandi (17384), Yash Khurana (17500) and Sarabjit Singh (17466), of Mechanical Department from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon have attended the Engineering Seminar on “Digital applications in Railways and Oil & Gas & Rail Vehicle Dynamics” organized by the Railway and Oil & Gas Division of IMechE-India at Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, Gurugram on 3rd June 2017
The objective of the seminar was to inform students that how rapidly digital solutions is entering the world of railways and the Oil & Gas industry. In addition, one of the speakers also provided an introduction to rail vehicle suspension design.
Seminar began with the lecture of Mr. Allwyn Peter (North Indian advisor of IMechE). He gave Introduction of IMechE to its new members and non-registered members. He explained all the policies of IMechE and facilities provided by it.
First lecture was on Introduction to Rail Vehicle Suspension Design by Mr. Anil Kumar. He was a Railway Vehicle Design Engineer in Indian Railways and is currently working in GE transportation. He gave an introduction on how principles of vibration engineering are used for designing the suspension of railway vehicles, particularly for locomotives and for metro coaches.
Second lecture was on Railway Asset Performance Management Through Digital Solutions by Mr. Girish Joglekar. He was an Electrical Engineer in Siemens. He is currently working with GE Transportation as Sales Leader - Digital solutions. He gave an overview on application of APM solutions in railway assets like locomotives and wagons, through digitization. He also discussed the Internet of Things (IOT) used in Locomotive andwagons.
Third lecture was on Digital Applications in Oil and Gas with Focus on Condition Monitoring by Mr. Sanjay Dehran. He is the Senior Lead Engineer at Fluor’s New Delhi office. He explained Automation Systems, Machine Condition Monitoring & Packaged Units. Mr. Sanjay also explained control system design mainly DCS system, Safety Shutdown Systems, Fire & Gas System, Telecom Systems, Mechanical Package Instrumentation, Analyzers and all types other Field Instrumentation. He taught how sensors are used in oil & gas plant from onshore to offshore, in the safety and control purpose.
The event was a great opportunity which provided a platform for networking with industry leaders.
