CELEBRATION OF THE 3rd INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY ON
21st JUNE 2017
NSS Wing of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organised a Yoga session to celebrate the "3rd International Yoga Day (IYD)" on 21st June 2017. The volunteers including Students & Staff members from the college practiced Yoga under the mentorship of Swami Ish Muni Ji Patanjali Chief Yoga Shikshak.
Inaugurating the Yoga Day celebration, the Principal Prof (Dr.) B.M.K. Prasad reiterated that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient traditions. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well - being. It is undoubtedly a scientific process leading to our physical, mental and spiritual development. Thereafter Dean Academics Prof (Dr.) Sri Kishan Yadav introduced Swami Ish Muni Ji to the participants.
The training session begun at 7.00A.M with a brief explanation by Swami Ish Muni Ji about the initiatives taken by Ministry of AYUSH, the significance of Astang Yoga and the celebrations. He explained the true meaning of being healthy and the routine of human being to include correct Aahar, Vihaar and Karya.
The session began with a Vandana (prayer recital). This was followed by a warmup session comprising on the spot jogging, foot movements etc. While conducting the warming up session Swami Ji gave the importance of this mandatory activity before practicing the asanas. Thereafter under his guidance and demonstrations, volunteers practiced various asanas as per the protocols given by the Ministry of AYUSH. This included standing, sitting, prone and spine postures followed by Shavasna. The benefits of practicing each of the asanas and contraindication were mentioned while performing each one of them. In the end AnulomVilom and BhramriPranayamwas conducted which was so rejuvenating for the senses.
Swami Ish Muni Ji concluded the session with Omkar chanting and a resolution for the well - being of mankind and a prayer to the almighty to bless the participants
At the end Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K. Prasad presented a token of reverence to Chief Guest Swami Ish Muni Ji. Registrar Brig.(Retd.) R.S.Kochar delivered a vote of thanks for Swami Ish Muni Ji and the organising committee for having made this event a grand success. Thereafter the participants interacted with yoga expert to clear their individual problems and obtained valuable tips and suggestions related to health.
It was a memorable day in the life of most of the participants who were exposed first time to this wonderful practice. The feedback given by most of them was that such sessions should be conducted more often in future.
