Visit to "National Institute of Solar Energy"
16th May 2023
Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), Ministry of Education (MoE), Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized a visit to “National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE)” on 16th May 2023. Faculty member Prof. Ruchita Gupta (Department: ECE) along with about 40 students of ECE/EEE/ECS.
National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), an autonomous institution of Ministry of New and Renewable (MNRE), is the apex National R&D institution in the field Solar Energy. The Government of India has converted 25 year old Solar Energy Centre (SEC) under MNRE to an autonomous institution in September, 2013 to assist the Ministry in implementing the National Solar Mission and to coordinate research, technology and other related works. Many R&D projects such as Swajal, 1 MW Solar Thermal Power Plant, 500kWp Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant, 150kWp Solar Rooftop Photovoltaic Power Plant and 120 kWp Solar Photovoltaic Plant for Hydrogen harnessing facility for Green Energy is undertaken by NISE.
The students and faculty member were welcomed by NISE official. He gave brief introduction to National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) to the students
Next students saw various working R&D projects made by NISE such as Solar Cold Storage Plant with Thermal Energy Back-up, Hydrogen Fueling Station to harness Hydrogen and store it for various purposes, Solar Driver Cum Space Heating System with Thermal Back-up, which is used to retain the moisture of food. We also saw a humongous Solar Thermal Power Plant. Students were briefed about the panel's inclination for maximum efficiency and various components used. Students were also introduced to a Solar Cold Storage, designed to store about 6-7 ton vegetables, to retain its quality.
Next students saw was the Solar Photovoltaic Plant for Hydrogen harnessing facility. They were briefed about the set-up, the electrolysis process, the storage of electrolytes and further storage of the harnessed Hydrogen for use.
The students had an exposure to the field of Solar Energy, Electronics and Power Electronics. They were motivated and learnt the scope of core electronics in future.. It was an enriching and inspirational experience for the students.
