National Seminar on Gender Discrimination In India
A national seminar on “Gender Discrimination In India” was organized by National Service Scheme at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak (Haryana) on 21st march 2015. Shweta Popli (16154) from Computer Science & Engineering Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the seminar.
The speakers of the seminar were Dr. Ranbir Gulia, Program Coordinator, NSS and Dr. Jagbir Narwal. The welcome address was given by Prof. N. S. Chahal from Maharishi Dayanand University in which he discussed about gender discrimination and reports on report on the documented evidences. Then, Honorable Vice Chancellor of MD University Dr. H. S. Chahal, discussed about the contributions required from the society to eradicate this problem from India. He explained about the present scenario about ratio in boys and girls and also mentioned that the balance in society is not up to date and society should give it a practical shape.
Prof. Rumki Basu, Key-note Speaker of the session, from Jamia Milia also expressed her views about gender discrimination, along with the factors of discrimination and empowered decisions. After that, Prof. Aftab Ahmed from Aligarh Muslim University discussed about several issues and the ways through which we can eradicate this problem. During his talk, he stated that the backword areas and the people from below poverty line are the major sufferers. They are the ones who should be made aware about the importance of females.
In the end, a vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Anjana Garg to all eminent speakers of the session. The session was followed by the poster presentation, in which all the NSS volunteers and NSS programme officers presented their papers on different titles related to gender discrimination. Everyone was credited with the participation certificate.
