Short Term Training on "Enhancing Soft Skills and Personality"

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized Short Term Training on “Enhancing Soft Skills and Personality” from 20th - 24th March, 2023. Captain Manjula Katoch was the Soft Skills Trainer during the training program. Students of B.Tech 3rd Year attended the training program.
The program was coordinated by Prof. Ashima Mehta (CSE Dept.) and co-coordinated by Prof. Neha Chauhan (ME Department). Prof. Ashima introduced the speaker and welcomed her on the dais to train the students on the said topic. Captain Manjula started the session by enlightening the students and said Personality and Soft Skills develop inter personal skills and enables individuals serving in teams be an effective goal oriented team player. These skills also develop professionals with idealistic, practical and moral values, develop communication and problem solving skills, re-engineer attitude and understand its influence on behavior. The immense knowledge on soft skills is needed to deal with the external world and to work in a collaborative manner with other colleagues. These skills include effective communication, leadership and teamwork skills, demonstrating problem solving abilities, initiative, and motivation skills, displaying honesty and strong work ethics.
During the first day, the topic of Leadership was covered along with the exercise to make the students understand about types of leader and which type of leaders they are.
She said, leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act toward achieving a common goal. It can be an individual or a group of individuals. It is interpersonal influence, exercised in a situation, directed through the communication process towards the attainment of a specified goal. Leaders may be imposed, formally appointed, chosen informally or emerge naturally. It may involve individual functioning, team functioning, task functioning and or a combination of any or all of them.
On the second day, topic on body language was taught to the students. Students were informed about the importance of body language and how it can become a tool of communication.
Body language is the unspoken part of communication that everyone uses to reveal their true feelings. Non-verbal cues such as tone of voice, gestures and posture all play their part. A simple example of body language is a relaxed facial expression that breaks out into a genuine smile – with mouth upturned and eyes wrinkled. Equally, it can be a tilt of the head that shows you're thinking, an upright stance to convey interest, or hand and arm movements to demonstrate directions. It can also be taking care to avoid a defensive, arms-crossed posture, or restlessly tapping your feet.
On the third day, Time Management topic was covered. Exercises were done to manage the time and its importance in life and career.
Captain Manjula Katoch said productivity and efficiency are vital in any workplace. Time Management is the coordination of tasks and activities to maximize the effectiveness of an individual’s efforts, enabling people to get more and better work done in less time. When you have acuity, you're able to be sharp and efficient in your thinking. You are able to understand things quickly and pick up on new concepts, which helps employers save time.
On fourth day Resume writing was covered. Students were told to bring their resume. The resume of the students were checked and different techniques of writing the resume were explained like - What to write in the resume, order in which information must be presented in the resume, font size, font style, etc.
On fifth day interview skills were taught. Students were informed to wear formal attire. They were called on the stage and questions were asked. The method was demonstrated to students while appearing for the interview like how to sit, how to answer, what to answer, what types of words not to be used in the interview, never to argue in the interviewer etc.
It was a very helpful session for the students and helped the students to enhance their personality.
