CSI REGIONAL STUDENT CONVENTION (RSC - 2018)

CSI Student Branch of Dronacharya College of Engineering organized the CSI Regional Student Convention (RSC - 2018) under CSI banner on 23rd - 24th February 2018 at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon.
The theme for the convention was "Advancement in Technology and Real Time Challenges" (ATRTC-2018)". ATRTC-2018 is a platform for sharing ideas and expands networking for scholars, researchers, and students from all areas of Science, Technology and Innovation for Inclusive and Sustainable Development. The event was sponsored by I3india, AD Hospitalities Services and FestPav.com.
During the two days of the convention, around 900 participants and volunteers were assembled including 200 outside participants from MSIT New Delhi, GD Goenka University Gurugram, MRIU Gurugram, Northcap University Gurugram, Delhi University, GNA University Punjab, PM College Sonipat, NSIT New Delhi etc.
The events organized during the convention were prototype exhibition, paper presentation, 3-D designing, mobile app mock up, cod-a-thon, poster presentation, monster Gaming, photography competition, robo-combat, treasure hunt, theme based rangoli contest and workshops on Web Development, Azure, Cloud and GitHub.
Day 1 - 23rd February2018
Chief Guest for inaugural ceremony was Dr. Sujit Banerjee, Scientist F, Department of Science and Technology and distinguished guest were Prof. Arvind Sharma, Regional Vice President, Region-1, CSI, Mr. Saurabh Agrawal, Delivery Head, Healthcare Products and Platform, TCS, Mr. Vikrant Satsangi, Manager Education Advocacy, Microsoft and Mr. Abhineet Ranjan, CEO, Ranjan Industries Pvt. Lt. Delhi. Workshop speakers were Ms. Preeti Goyal, Community Lead, Microsoft Technical Community NCR, Microsoft Student Partner and Mr. Dhruv Avdhesh, Author of Celebrating Failure, Microsoft Student Partner.
Prof. (Dr.) B.M.K. Prasad (Principal, DCE) welcomed the eminent guests during the opening ceremony with bouquets. During the welcome address, he briefed the gathering the purpose of the convention and the importance of such activities in an academic institution.
It was followed by a short teaser that showcased the events lined up for the RSC- 2018.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Dr. Sujit Banerjee discussed the advancements in technology and the multi-dimensional use of IT in today's fast progressive world discussed about his real life experiences and growth of IT during the period of his service. He continued saying, efficiency can be created through process design and innovation across various cost centres of the business like marketing, inventory & supply, technology, manpower, logistics & shipping etc. Marketplace approach towards inventory is one such innovation designed to reduce risk and costs & provide efficiency to an online business. He also stated, it is extremely important for the students to understand its importance and usage.
The distinguished guest, Mr. Arvind Sharma talked on Computer Society of India. The activities conducted for the Students associated with the society includes lecture meetings, seminars, conferences, training programmes, programming contests and practical visits to installations. CSI has a strong Educational Directorate based at Chennai which undertakes activities related to certification of professionals related to the latest technologies and at the same time it also ensures that regular training and skill updating are organised for the IT professionals. . He also discussed the various achievements and role of students in CSI activities.
The keynote address was given by Mr. Saurabh Agarwal. He discussed the theme of the student convention "Advancement in Technology and Real Time Challenges". He stressed on the latest developments in technology & changes in societal behaviour. He focused on individual meanings of all words and went on to talk, real life experiences which very well emphasized how the youth of today is really becoming empowered by the proper usage of IT. He described, internet of things is the network of physical objects that contains embedded technology to communicate and sense or interact with the objects' internal state or the external environment." By 2020, a home could have more than 500 smart objects collaborating in a personal Internet of Things. Then he focused on the priority of the today's generation like internet, Mobile phone, Wifi and cars.
The various events were organized with the aim to give a platform to students to explore their technical knowledge and expertise with the angle of fun at Regional Level.
1. Paper Presentation
Paper presentation was organised to provide a suitable platform for dynamic development of students in order to build their presentation skills, research abilities, technical writing and self-learning. Rohan Makkar, Romin Saini; Ankit Thakur, Aryan Dalal and Megha Keshri, Radha Nayal, Deepak Tiwari secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Dr. Jyoti Anand (Associate Professor, APH&S) has managed the event.
2. Android App Mock-up
Android App Mock-up provided the student a platform to share and learn about Android, the world's most popular mobile platform that powers hundreds of millions of mobile devices in more than 190 countries around the world. In the event the students have to share their ideas into mobile applications. Naman Singh, Deep Khurana; Kajal, Udit Naryan and Nitesh Chauhan, Anjali Dubey secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively and the event was managed by Mrs. Poonam Yadav (Assistant Professor, IT).
3. Idea presentation with poster
Idea presentation with poster was organized with the aim to assess the awareness level of the students with the new innovative ideas which talks of the current in the field of technology. Parul Bhardwaj, Mohit Bhat, Prashant Vashisht; Gurvinder Rana, Manish Kumar, Deepanshi and Harshit Choudhary, Pranshu Kalra, Aayush Tiwari secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Mr. Dharmendra Pal (Associate Professor, IT) has managed the event.
4. Prototype Exhibition
Prototype exhibition was organized to enhance the knowledge of student and motivate them to compete in the global competitive engineering field and they can make awareness on fast growing technologies, its real applications in industries, knowing other's innovations, building of their inherent abilities and improvement of their communication is possible by shearing of their knowledge to the others. Manan Bhardwaj, Naveen Daksh, Tamanna Sood, V. Sai Anila; Himanshu Bhirani, Kunal Arora, Prafful Sharma, Harsh Manav and Manish Kumar, Gurvinder Rana, Muskan, Shubham secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively & the event was managed by Mrs. Dimple Saproo (RDC Head, DCE) and Mrs. Neha Verma (Assistant Professor, IT).
5. Cod-a-thon
Cod-a-thon event was organized to judge the coding and programming skills of students and give them a feel of global exposure. Ishan Wason, Mehul Negi; Uddeshya Kumar, Sameer Yadav and Fatma Laiba, Elisha Agarwal secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Mrs. Neha Dhaiya (Assistant Professor, CSE) has managed the event.
6. 3-D Designing
3D Designing was organized with the motive to create a product in a virtual environment Asad Ullah, Gulshan Malhotra and Ravi secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively & the event was managed by Mr. Amit Narwal (Assistant Professor, ME).
7. Photography
Photography is to capture the nature's beauty in Picture. Jaskaran Singh, Sarthak Jain, Mohit Yadav, Kailash Nath Yadav; Rohit Kumar, Lokesh Kumar, Parveen Saini, Saksham Sang and Vaibhav Saluja, Mandeep Singh secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively the event was managed by Mr. Chain Singh (Assistant Professor, CSE).
8. Robo Combat
Robo-combat was organized with the motive to design a robot that can move on black lines on white background and reach the finish point in minimum time. Nand Kishore Nair, Sayyam Saini, Ankush, Manish Pandey; Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Yadav, Abhishek Roy, Nidhi Chaturvedi and Sayeed Atik, Bikram Nath, Sumit Singha, Nitin Sharma, Keshav Saini secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively & the event was managed by Mr. Krishanu Kundu (Assistant Professor, ECE).
9. Treasure Hunt
The Treasure hunt event was number of small fun activities to entertain students apart from technical fun. The event involves about solving clues, puzzles and riddles and thus putting the knowledge and logical skills to test. Siddharth Sharma, Navdeep Rajput, Akash Thakur, Poonam Yadav; Hardik Kaushik, Anuj Singh, Prateek Kumar, Rohit Rana and Mohit Bhatt, Parul , Radhika Taneja, Dennyson Davis secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively & Mr. Gaurav Thakur (Assistant Professor, CE) has managed the event..
10. Theme Based Rangoli Competition
Theme based rangoli competition was organized to showcase the creative potential of the students based on the theme "Advancement in Technology and Real Time Challenges". Poonam Yadav, Ankit Yadav, Charan Singh Yadav; Anzela Thakur, Divyam Yadav, Gaurav Kumar, Divyam Yadav and Namrata Sharma, V.Sai.Anila, Tamana Sood secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Dr. Vaishali Dixit (Associate Professor, APH&S) has managed the event.
11. Monster Gaming
This event aimed to test the gaming skills of the students and help them think on the lines which are expected by companies for placements. Three games were organized under the event.

1. Counter Strike
Divesh Gulia, Fahad Akhtar, Aryan, Amit Chauhan, Nasir Ali; Kamal, Harsh, Manish, Sourabh, Mandeep and Amit Raina, Sunil Kumar, Rohit Rana, Divyanshu Jangra, Karan Dhyani secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
2. Mini Militia
Rishab Singh Panwar, Rajat Sharma, Vipin Sharma, Lakshya Yadav, Rahul Singh Bisht; Utkarsh Singh Rawat, Tushar Mehta, Rahul, Piyush Arora, Sahil and Parveen, Prakash, Rishabh, Pankaj Yadav, Jatin Rana secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
The event was managed by Mr. Vinod Kumar (Assistant Professor, IT).
Three parallel workshops on "Web Development" by Mr. Dhruv Avdesh; "Azure" by Ms. Preeti Goyal and "GitHub" by Mr. Anadesh were also organized with maximum student participation.
Day 2 - 24th February 2018
The valedictory and award distribution ceremony was organized on 24thFeb 2018. The Chief Guest for the closing ceremony was Mr. Shanker Ramasamy (National Student Coordinator, CSI). He motivated the students by saying, being creative and being curious is more important than being smartest or the best at equations if you want to be a great engineer or researcher. He focused on the placement statistics India produces 1.5 million engineers every year from 4000 institutes but only 5% engineers got placed, so we have to be innovative because including core research work will help us to innovate in short term and create more jobs in long run. Focus your time and energy only on learning because there are lots of opportunity waiting for the right candidates and also don't go for training institute they will not be good for you instead invest in online courses they will surely help you in improving your technical skills.
At the Certificate Distribution and Award Ceremony, trophies, cash prizes, robotic kits and training vouchers were presented to the winners and certificates to all the participants who participated in the events.
RSC 2018 gave the students a platform to enhance the awareness on technical developments to foster creative professional orientations among the academic community and the coordinators received positive feedback from the participants.
