National Nutrition Week 2026: Nutrition for Better Living
1st - 7th September, 2026
NSS Cell, Dronacharya College of Engineering (DCE), Gurugram, organized a week-long National Nutrition Week 2026 programme from September 1 to September 7, 2026, with a focus on promoting balanced nutrition, healthy dietary habits, food safety and preventive wellness. The initiative combined campus-based activities with community outreach, encouraging students to understand the importance of nutrition while spreading awareness among communities and school children.
As part of the community outreach, Dr. Anupam Dalal along with NSS volunteers visited the adopted villages of Khentawas, Saidpur and Patli. Interactive sessions covered balanced diets, macronutrients, traditional Indian foods, millets (Shri Anna), affordable nutrition, personal hygiene, hydration and adolescent health. Volunteers also distributed dietary guides, conducted hygiene demonstrations and engaged villagers and school students in discussions on the connection between nutritious food, physical growth and cognitive development. More than 300 residents and school students were sensitized through these activities.
Campus activities brought together academic learning, creativity and nutritional awareness. An Expert PPT Presentation on Food & Nutrition, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Ashok Kumar, highlighted food science, dietary diversity, micronutrients, food hygiene and the importance of proper nutrition for a healthy lifestyle. The PPT Competition further encouraged students to express their understanding creatively, with Manish Gautam (ECS) securing the First Position and Anjali Rawat (CSIT) securing the Second Position.
Technology became an integral part of the celebrations through the App Making Competition held on September 2, 2026, under the theme “Design. Build. Inspire Better Nutrition.” Coordinated by Prof. Ms. Sanjoti, the competition challenged students to develop applications for nutritional-intake tracking, BMI calculation and affordable meal planning. BufferBite secured the First Position, while Nutri360 secured the Second Position. The projects were evaluated by Prof. Manoj and Prof. Kunal Wadhwa, with Prof. Sanjyoti Jain serving as Faculty Co-ordinator.
Adding a practical and creative dimension, the Cooking Without Fire Competition, coordinated by Dr. Vaishali, promoted nutritious food preparation using millets, sprouts, fruits and organic ingredients without conventional heating appliances. Participants were evaluated on nutritional value, creativity, taste, presentation, hygiene and sustainability. A seminar on “Food Myths & Millets - Busting Myths, Boosting Millets” further enhanced the programme by addressing common food myths, healthy eating practices, balanced nutrition and the benefits of incorporating millets into everyday diets.
The week-long campaign concluded successfully on September 7, 2026, achieving its objectives of promoting health consciousness, nutritional awareness, technical innovation and civic responsibility. More than 500 college students and rural community members were sensitized through the combined initiatives. With the coordinated efforts of Prof. Ms. Sanjoyti, Dr. Vaishali, Prof. Dr. Ashok Kumar and Dr. Anupam Dalal, along with NSS volunteers and student participants, the programme strengthened DCE Gurugram’s commitment to holistic student development, community welfare and responsible citizenship.
