Industrial Visit to POWERGRID (PGCIL), Manesar

Students from the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Electronics and Computer Science (ECS)departments of Dronacharya College of Engineering visited the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID/PGCIL), Manesar, Gurugram, on 3rd September 2026. The students were accompanied by faculty coordinators Prof.KanikaLamba and Dr. Nidhi Srivastava. The visit was organized with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to the functioning of a major power transmission organization and enabling them to relate their academic learning with real-world industrial practices.
During the visit, the students were guided by Mr. Mahinder Kumar Prajapati, Engineer, who familiarized them with the operational framework and technical infrastructure associated with power transmission and grid management. He explained various aspects of electrical power systems, transmission operations, monitoring and control mechanisms, protection systems, automation, and maintenance practices. The students gained an understanding of how different systems work together to ensure the safe, stable, and reliable transmission of electricity across the power network.
The interaction provided valuable insights into the practical application of concepts studied in the classroom, particularly in the areas of electrical systems, electronics, control, instrumentation, automation, and communication. Students were also made aware of the significance of continuous monitoring and coordinated operations in managing large-scale power infrastructure. The importance of safety procedures, preventive maintenance, system protection, and adherence to operational standards was highlighted, helping students appreciate the technical precision and responsibility involved in the power sector.
The students also had the opportunity to interact with the industry professional and gain an understanding of the challenges encountered in the operation and maintenance of large-scale power systems. The discussion provided them with a broader perspective on the evolving role of technology and automation in the energy sector, as well as the technical competencies and professional skills expected from engineering graduates. The exposure further helped students understand potential career opportunities in power transmission, electrical systems, automation, electronics, and related areas.
The industrial visit to POWERGRID/PGCIL, Manesar, Gurugram, proved to be an informative and enriching learning experience for the students. It strengthened their understanding of power transmission and grid operations while providing first-hand exposure to industrial practices and professional engineering environments. The visit successfully bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and its practical implementation, enhanced the students’ technical awareness, and motivated them to develop industry-relevant skills for their future careers.
