FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME AT DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, SECTOR 45

Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, Resource Centre for Spoken Tutorial IIT Bombay, (an initiative of National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Govt. of India) organised a Faculty Development programme.Mrs. Chitra Kaul, Resource Centre Coordinator (Spoken Tutorial) along with Mrs. Anu Gupta, Faculty coordinator and two student coordinators visited Delhi Public School (DPS), Sector 45 on 9th September 2015. Twenty five faculty members of the school, all from Computer Science background, participated in the event.
The objective of the programme was to spread information on free open source software and features of Spoken Tutorial project about teaching and learning a particular FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) like Linux, Scilab, LaTeX, PHP & MySQL, Java, C/C++, and Libre Office via an easy video tool - Spoken Tutorials.
The Spoken Tutorial project is the initiative of the ‘Talk to a Teacher’ activity. It aims to popularize software development. Spoken Tutorials are available on various Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in various Indian regional languages. The objective of the program is to pass on the knowledge of technology and free and open source software (FOSS) and access to learn these software. The target group is school children, college students, working professionals, teachers, trainers, research scholars, software users and developers.
The Faculty Development Program started with the brief introduction on Spoken Tutorial through ICT by Mrs. Chitra Kaul and Mrs. Anu Gupta. They also described the benefits of Spoken Tutorial - from IIT Bombay for the school students. Next the faculties registered themselves on the Spoken Tutorial portal so that they can access the free softwares that are available online. The spoken tutorial resource team specified some of the salient features of SELF (Spoken Tutorial based Education and Learning through Free FOSS) study. The FDP aimed at not only to deliver the contents to the participants but also to encourage them to use software’s in imparting technical knowledge among the students. The team organised a workshop “C” language. The school authority showed a keen interest in SELF and they assured to go for the on line test so that they can be certified in C. They also planned to start FOSS Training for the students.
The name of DPS, Sector 45 was also added in the list of Schools providing spoken tutorial training. The mentor team fromDronacharya College of Engineering received an enthusiastic response from the staff members, HODs and Principal of DPS.
