NPTEL Online Certification Introduction to programming in C
6th - 13th September, 2015
NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a joint initiative of the IITs and IISc. Through this initiative it offers online courses and certification in various topics. Six students namely Shubham Kumar (17139), Chanakya Sethi(17039), Deepesh Bhutani (17046), Priyanka Mogha (17106), Kunal Pandey (17071), Lokesh Sharma(17075) along with faculty coordinator Ms. Ashu Khurana from Computer Science and Engineering department ofDronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon participated in the NPTEL online course “Introduction to programming in C”. The participants appeared for the certification exam that was held on 6 and 13 September, 2015.
NPTEL offers one of the largest collections of video and web courses in engineering and allied areas. This portal is powered by Google, and the certification is in the partnership with NASSCOM, India's umbrella organization for IT and other high tech industries. Students and Faculties can download 20,000+ NPTEL video lecture topics for 500+ video courses in 22 Engineering Disciplines.
In course “Introduction to programming in C”, the main emphasize is on solving problems using the language, and introduce standard programming techniques like alternation, iteration and recursion. The course briefly glimpse the basics of software engineering practices like modularization, commenting, and naming conventions which help in collaborating and programming in teams.
Prof. Amey Karkare and Dr. Satyadev Nandakumar from Department of Computer Science and Engineering of I.I.T. Kanpur were the course instructors. The course covered the following lessons:
1. Introduction, Statements, Operators, Loops, Functions, Conditionals, Arrays & Pointers, Recursion , Multidimensional Arrays
After attending this course, students enhanced their skills in attempting algorithmic solutions to problem. They can easily design and moderate sized programs running to the order of a few hundred lines of code. They can also Reading, understanding and modifying code written by others. This course proved to be very beneficial for them as programming is very important for computer science students.
The six students and faculty member Ms. Ashu Khurana from DCE have successfully completed this course and received certificate.
