Sanitary Pads Donation Drive
4th February 2023
After Effects of Covid 19 pandemic have been seen throughout the world, most importantly in the economic sector. Even before covid, 78% women in India relied on alternatives other than sanitary pads, but after Covid the number unfortunately changed to 82%. Lack of sanitary pads has led to increased cases of UTI’s and cyst in women which are left untreated. This has not only altered the mental and physical health of girls but has also affected their education. The Number of girls dropping out of school has also increased in the last 2 years.
After observing these statistics and analyzing the current scenario Women Development Cell, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram decided to organize a Sanitary Pads Donation Drive on 4th February 2023. Female faculty, students and staff members actively volunteered for the donation drive. The donation drive was conducted in 5 villages nearby the college. Volunteers were divided into 5 groups each consisting of 5 faculty members, 3 staff members and 15 students. Each group was assigned a village where they had to conduct the donation drive.
Sanitary Pads Donation Drive included a “Nukad Natak” performed by volunteers in which they explain the importance of using sanitary pads, the need of promoting menstrual hygiene and the ill effects that are caused by lack of proper women healthcare system. Faculty members also explained the diseases that are caused by using alternatives other than sanitary pads. Volunteers also emphasized that menstrual hygiene is not a taboo and it should be discussed openly without any embarrassment.
Lastly the drive ended with donation of Sanitary Pads to village women and conducting a pledge to prioritize menstrual hygiene and using sanitary pads over other alternatives. Overall the drive was a huge success.
