Theme: Atam Nirbhar Bharat
The National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram, organized a seven-day camp from 23rd - 29th February, 2024. The theme of the camp was "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India), focusing on empowering adopted villages for self-sufficiency. The camp targeted three adopted villages: Khentawas , Patli and Sayyad Mohamadpur located near Farrukhnagar.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The primary objective of NSS volunteers is to develop the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community services. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS.
The objective of the camp was to
- Raise awareness about the concept of "Atmanirbhar Bharat" within the adopted villages.
- Identify local resources and potential for self-reliance in each village.
- Conduct workshops and skill development sessions to empower villagers towards self-sufficiency.
- Foster a sense of community engagement among NSS volunteers and villagers.
Day 1: 23rd February 2024
The first day of the NSS camp commenced at college campus with enthusiasm and energy aiming to foster a sense of community and engagement among the volunteers. The event sought to welcome guests, acknowledge achievements, and showcase cultural diversity through various performances.
The day began with a warm welcome extended to the esteemed guests, setting the tone for the day’s proceedings. The camp commenced with an inaugural ceremony graced by the presence of distinguished guests: Prof. Dr. Subhash C Kundu , Dean Academic, Gurugram University, Gurugram , (Chief Guest), Prof. Dr. Vijay Kumar Mehta, Coordinator, NSS, Gurugram University, Gurugram (Guest of Honour), Prof. Dr. BMK Prasad Director Dronacharya College of Engineering Gurugram, Prof. Dr. Isha Malhotra Principal, Dronacharya College of Engineering Gurugram, Prof. Dr Hansraj Yadav Registrar Dronacharya College of Engineering Gurugram
The ceremony marked the official start of the camp and guests addressed the gathering and emphasized the significance of the National Service Scheme (NSS), highlighting its importance in societal development. They stressed how NSS embodies values of selflessness and community service.
Day 2: 24 February 2024
On the second day of the camp NSS volunteers along with NSS Program Officer visited to the Om Shanti Retreat Centre at (Bhora -kala) for the holistic development and well-being, fostering personal growth, community building, and renewed inspiration for their service-oriented endeavors.
Session 1:
The session at retreat center was conducted with an introduction to the importance of moral values and the significance of self-discovery in today's fast-paced world. Sister at retreat center emphasized the role of these elements in fostering resilience, integrity, and emotional well-being.
Session 2: Meditation- practices:
The activity performs to gives a sense of calm, peace and balance that benefits the emotional well-being and the mind health of volunteers.
Day 3 25th February 2024
On the third day of the camp Volunteers along with NSS PO visited Government School of Khentawas, Farukhnagar. Volunteers had an interactive session with the primary class students. Volunteers engaged with the students to understand their interests and concerns.
Next volunteers conducted a session to raise awareness among the students about the importance of education and the education system. They discussed various aspects of education and encouraged students to pursue their studies diligently.
Later a session on cleanliness and healthcare was conducted to educate students about the significance of personal hygiene and overall health. Volunteers imparted knowledge about basic hygiene practices and the importance of regular healthcare check-ups.
Lastly engaging quiz activities were organized by volunteers for the students, providing them with an opportunity to enjoy and participate actively. These activities aimed to foster teamwork, creativity, and leadership skills among the students. Five winners of the quiz competition were awarded prizes. This recognition encouraged students to actively participate in academic and extracurricular activities.
Day 4: 26th February 2024
On the fourth day of the camp Volunteers along with NSS PO visited Government School of Patli. Volunteers had an interactive session with the primary class students. Volunteers engaged with the students to understand their interests and concerns.
Primary education is the path maker of any citizen of nation keeping this in view volunteers started the day with school. Volunteers and coordinators, along with Program Officer Dr. Anupam Dalal, initiated the day with an interactive session with the primary class students. This session aimed to build rapport and understand the student's interests and concerns.
Volunteers conducted a session to raise awareness among the students about the importance of education and the education system. They discussed various aspects of education and encouraged students to pursue their studies diligently. Engaging quiz activities were organized by volunteers for the students, providing them with an opportunity to enjoy and participate actively. These activities aimed to foster teamwork, creativity, and leadership skills among the students.
Coordinators led a session on discipline awareness and moral values, emphasizing the importance of integrity, respect, and responsibility in both academic and personal life. Students were encouraged to uphold these values in their daily lives. Next volunteers imparted knowledge about cleanliness and hygiene practices to the students. They discussed the importance of maintaining cleanliness in surroundings and personal hygiene for a healthy lifestyle.
To add a touch of creativity and enjoyment, dance activities were organized. Students enthusiastically participated and showcased their talent through various dance performances, fostering a sense of joy and camaraderie. A highlight of the day was the prize distribution ceremony, where students were rewarded for their participation and achievements. Pencils, cups, and toffees were distributed as tokens of appreciation to encourage and motivate the students further.
Volunteers encouraged villagers to brainstorm and identify local resources (agricultural, human skills, etc.) that could contribute to self-sufficiency. Depending on the identified resources and needs, these sessions have covered topics like organic farming techniques, water conservation practices, and entrepreneurial ventures.
Day 5: 27th February 2024
On the fifth day of camp Rangoli Competition poster presentation and Speech on Aatam Nirbhar –bharat was organized. Students enthusiastically participated in the competition and showcased their creativity and communication skills.
Day 6 : 28th February 2024
On the 6th day of the camp, 1 hour Rally of all Volunteers and Faculty Co-ordinators ( Dr. Ashok Kumar, Dr.Anupam Dalal , Mrs.Pooja Sharma) along with Swachta Abhiyan was organized.
Day 7 : 29th February 2024.
Closing Ceremony
The culmination of the week's activities came with a memorable closing ceremony. The presence of distinguished guests Mr. Manoj Kumar and Mr. Desraj from the Government of India's Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs added a special significance to the occasion. The culmination of the week-long camp was marked by a memorable closing ceremony.
The NSS camp on "Atmanirbhar Bharat" served as a successful platform for community engagement and empowerment in Khentawas, Patli. By fostering a collaborative spirit and equipping villagers with knowledge and skills, the camp has laid the groundwork for their journey towards self-reliance. The learnings and action plan formulated during the camp, along with the potential support from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, will guide further efforts towards achieving the vision of a self-sufficient rural India.
The NSS camp on "Atmanirbhar Bharat" proved to be a valuable experience for both NSS volunteers and villagers. The camp facilitated:
- Increased awareness about the concept of self-reliance and its importance in village development.
- Identification of local resources that can be harnessed for economic self-sufficiency within Khentawas.
- Skill development among villagers through interactive workshops.
- Building a strong foundation for future collaboration between NSS volunteers and Khentawas , Patli and Sayyed Mohmmadpur village community.
