National Conference on "Sustainable Solid Waste Management-An Innovative Approach"

Department of Civil Engineering, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon organized one day National Conference on "Sustainable Solid Waste Management-An Innovative Approach" under the sponsorship of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, Delhi on 15th January 2016.
The National Conference was organized to give a brief yet comprehensive exposure to teachers, researchers, industrialist and students. So, academicians, researchers, industrialists and young scholars were invited to contribute their research paper on the various related topics.
Dr. Satish Yadav, Chairman, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon was the chief Patron and Prof. (Dr.) B. M. K Prasad was Patron Prof. (Dr.) Jitender Kumar was the Co-Patron of the seminar. Prof Meeta Verma (HOD CE) was the convener of the seminar.
The conference was bestowed with benign inaugural presence of Dr. Bhoop Singh, Directo r/ Scientist G (DST, Govt. of India). In his keynote address, Dr. Bhoop Singh emphasized the demand and need for research work, its undoubted applicability and facilitating entrepreneurs, industrials, young scholars with the research facilities so that they can contribute towards development of the nation. The Guest of honour Prof. (Dr.) Ashok K. Keshari, IIT Delhi in his guest lecture stressed on developing the basic solutions with regard to problems in sustainable solid waste management. He also emphasized on the need of the hour to use recent technologies and develop sound strategies in consultation with academicians, researchers, industrialists and young scholars to arrive at an implementable conclusion and formulation of its operation methodology. A Distinguished Delegate Mr. Anand Thakur, Ecologic Consultant, Sydney, Australia presented an overview of the Zero Waste Concept. He also outlined the development of this concept based on the Nature’s closed loop resource management model and discussed the key elements required in the successful implementation of this concept. The national conference received a large numbers of papers from the industry, academia, researchers & UG/PG students. The accepted papers were compiled in the Pre-Seminar Proceedings and later presented during the conference.
Technical Session 1
Dr. Bhoop Singh, (Director / Scientist G, Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India) chaired the first technical session. Paper on following themes Zero Waste Paradigm and Recycling of Solid Waste & Land Fill System were presented in the first technical session.Four Papers were presented in the session.
Technical Session 2
Dr. Ashok K. Keshari, (Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Hauz Khas, New Delhi) chaired the second technical session. Paper on following themes Impact of Climate Change and Energy Recovery and A New Concept to Solid Waste Management were presented in the second technical session. Seven Papers were presented in the session.
The conference concluded with the certificate distribution ceremony. The conference ended with Vote of thanks by Prof. Meeta Verma convener for the conference. The conference was a great learning experience for everyone and the participants gave valuable positive feedbacks.
