Focused Discussion Regarding Making Graduates Job Ready at AICTE Office

Mrs. Dimple Saproo (RDC Head ) from Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended a meeting held at AICTE Auditorium, Nelson Mandela Marg, Vasnt Kunj, New Delhi on 17th May 2017.
The objective of the meeting was aimed to improve the employability of engineering graduates. Heads from the various institute attended the meeting.
Dignitaries that were present in the meeting were Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe (Chairman AICTE), Dr. M.P Poonia (Vice Chairman, AICTE), Dr. Abhay Jere (SecretaryOrganizing Committee Smart India Hackathon 2017), Mr. Sharad. M. Marathe (Industry Expert), Dada Shambhushivananda (Chancellor at Ananda Marga Gurukula), Dr. R.S .Rathore (Director Regional Officer, AICTE, NWRO, Chandigarh).
Meeting started with a presentation of Dr. M.P Poonia, (Vice Chairman, AICTE) in which he discussed the various initiatives and planning to be incorporated by the AICTE for the making the students employable for the new academic session.
The points that were emphasized during his presentation were as under:
Plans to revamp Technical Education in the Country and first year Syllabus to be made Practical Oriented:
All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has set up a committee of subject experts to review the existing syllabi, and recommend curricula changes at Engineering and Technical institutes, revision of the syllabus will be done in consultation with the industry. AICTE is planning to amend the syllabus of engineering courses from 1st July with the addition of new subjects to bring the uniformity in the curriculum in the technical Institutions throughout the country. Every student, on admission, would be put through a mandatory induction training to reinforce the fundamental concepts and the required language skills for technical education.
Admission to all engineering colleges across the country will be done through a single entrance examination from next year with the AICTE.
Industrial Training must for all students:
New syllabus for engineering courses will be highly technical and job oriented. The syllabus will be industry linked in which it would be made compulsory for students to spend 2 months per year in an industry to link the theory with the practical. AICTE is tying up with CII and Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to give industrial exposure to the students. Most engineers remain unemployed because their skills are not synchronized with industry requirements.
Refresher Course for the Faculty:
It is mandatory for teachers to undergo an annual refresher course delivered through the Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) portal. Participation of at least 5% of the faculty in the course would be mandatory for approval of the institution. SWAYAM is a program initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality.
Technical Teacher Training must for all teachers:
3 months Teachers Training Program would be made compulsory after M. Tech for every teacher to teach technical subjects. AICTE has given this task to Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).
After the presentation Mr. Sharad. M. Marathe (Industry Expert) discussed the new initiatives launching by the AICTE to link students with Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) .The problem faced by the MSME will be given as challenge to the technical students so that they will provide real life problem solution and learning opportunity for the students and accordingly MSME will be benefited from creative ideas and solutions given by the students .Pilot projects are being planned by AICTE with the help of experienced Industry professionals for provide mentors to the students. It was also suggested all those students are receiving AICTE scholarships in their Post Graduate Program may voluntary for the below mentioned Projects
- Agri - Linked, Market Driven, Make in India to double farmers' incomes and increase rural employment.
- Addressing the garbage problem of Delhi by developing innovative technical solutions and new business models.
Dada Shambhushivananda(Chancellor at Ananda Marga Gurukula) discussed Neohumanist concepts being a new wave of awareness within the education community that the exploration of the deeper self cannot be separated from learning overall .He focused on the technology as a tool to transform current concerns about the limits of growth set the scene for discussion on harnessing new develops for the welfare of the planet .His speech was very much appreciated.
Dr. Abhay Jere (Secretary Organizing Committee Smart India Hackathon2017) discussed the Smart India Hackthon and the initiative Taken for the upliftment of the students.
Finally there was discussion on how Engineering Colleges and the Technical Institute can support and guide the students to provide good job opportunities and employability. The proper and timely implementation of projectsby the colleges will usher in transformative reforms in education system.
