Visit to CSIR - National Physics Laboratory

To embrace the Science Excellence at CSIR-NPL's 78th Foundation Day, Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Ministry of Education (MoE), Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized a visit to CSIR- NPL, New Delhi on 4th January 2024. Students along with faculty members Ms. Sukrati Chaturvedi (Assistant Professor, CSE Department ) and Dr. Shimpy Goyal (Assistant Professor, CSE Department ) visited NPL. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries and luminaries from the scientific community witnessed a series of impactful sessions and significant announcements.
The objective of the visit was to provide an opportunity to students to gain insights into the cutting-edge advancements in science, technology, and metrology.
The National Physical Laboratory is one of the earliest national laboratories set up under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the foundation stone of which was laid on the 4th January 1947.
The celebration kicked off with the ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and innovation. Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director, CSIR-NPL, extended a warm welcome, setting the tone for an insightful day. He shed light on the recent developments and activities of CSIR NPL. The event featured distinguished guest addresses by Dr. Ranjana Aggarwal, Director, CSIR-NIScPR, New Delhi, and Dr. Viswajanani J Sattigeri, Head, CSIR-TKDL, New Delhi.
The foundation day celebration offered a comprehensive overview of CSIR-NPL's significant role as the National Metrology Institute of India. Students gained an understanding of how CSIR-NPL disseminates traceable measurements for SI units, not only within India but also to SAARC nations. The exposure to state-of-the-art facilities showcased the commitment of CSIR-NPL to excellence in various scientific domains.
During the visit the students had the privilege of listening to distinguished personalities such as Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, President of INSA, and Dr. Ranjana Aggarwal, Director of CSIR-NIScPR. The keynote address by Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, focusing on the various facets and interfaces of science, invention, innovation, culture, and society, served as a beacon of inspiration for the students. It provided valuable insights into the transformative power of scientific advancements in shaping the progress of a nation.
Through the event, students had the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the crucial role played by CSIR-NPL in the nation's scientific and technological landscape. The institute's contributions to Atmanirbhar Bharat and various initiatives, as highlighted by Dr. Ranjana Aggarwal, served as an inspiration for the students.
Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director of CSIR-NPL, provided updates on recent developments and activities of the institute. This information was particularly beneficial for students, giving them a glimpse into the forefront of research and innovation in fields such as science, quantum physics, engineering, electronics, and environmental science.
The students also witnessed significant moments, such as the release of Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravya (BND) and the launch of the Technology Agreement Tool for Partnerships (TATPAR). These events highlighted the practical applications of scientific research and its impact on various industries.
