Workshop on Android App Development

Workshop on “Android App Development” was organized by Department of IT and CSIT, Dronacharya College of Engineering from 23rd - 24th Aug 2016. The workshop was organized under the banner of UTKRAANTI, IIT Madras. Mr. Ravi and Mr. Adarsh, Senior Research Engineer, IIT Madras were the trainers of the workshop on Android App Development. The Workshop was coordinated by Mr. Vinod Kumar, Assistant Professor, IT and CSIT and student co-ordinators Ancy Oommen, Uday Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Gaurav Mattas.
The objective of the workshop was to make students learn the Android technology which has high demand in job arena and is attracting lot of placements new market dominant technologies other than their course curriculum. The aim of the workshop was to help students to learn the basics of Android, how to start with it and how to develop apps and game using Android. This could help them to get an edge over their peers.
Contents covered in the Workshop
- Install and use appropriate tools for Android development, including IDE, device emulator, and profiling tools.
- Understand the Android application architecture, including the roles of the task stack, activities, and services.
- Build user interfaces with fragments, views, form widgets, text input, lists, tables, and more.
- Use advanced UI widgets for scrolling, tabbing, and layout control.
- Present menus via the Android action bar and handle menu selections.
- Store application data on the mobile device, in internal or external storage locations.
- Support user-specific preferences using the Android Preferences API.
There was a competition held on the second day (24th August 2016). The students were divided into 10 teams and top 3 teams have made it to the Grand Finale of the fest Utkranti which will be organized by IIT Madras.
The team of Vth Semester CSIT students Abhinav Pathak (17890), Ujjwal Chaudhary (17940), Umesh Chandra (17941) and Vipanshu Parashar(17947) stood first position. The team of Vth Semester IT students Nitesh Shankar Pandey (17543), Yatin Maheshwari (17567), Renu Yadav (17553), Rishabh Singh Rana (17554) And Priyanka Rautela (17547) stood second position. The team of Vth Semester IT Freni Isac Sam (17525), Himanshu Joshi (17529), Sourav Singh (17563), Komal Yadav (17537), Pawan Kumar (17544) stood third position.
In the workshop students came to know how to design, develop and deploy apps on Android platform which was very knowledgeable and beneficial for them.
