QEEE Sessions on Bending and Stresses in Beam
16th, 19th and 23rd August, 2016
QEEE session on “Bending and Stresses in Beam” was organized by IIT, Madras under D2S (Direct to Student) Program at Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon through ICT on 16th, 19th and 23rd August 2016. The sessions were delivered by Prof. Abhijit Sarkar, IIT Madras. The sessions were attended by 33 students of III semester Civil Engineering Department along with faculty member, Ms. Nikita Jain.
The details of the sessions are as follows:
First Session: 16th August 2016
Prof. Abhijit Sarkar started the lecture and gave a brief layout of the course and discussed all the topics that he will be covering during course. The course has been divided into modules and the name of the module is “Bending and Stresses in Beam” the module was divided into three sessions, having attended the first the students, got to know about the following topics: identify a structure, to determine stress at any point on beam, to calculate deflection, limitations of the beam theory, Euler – Bernoulli theory, section modulus, shape factor.
Second Session: 19th August 2016
In second session Prof. Sarkar explained the basics of structure and stresses, he also went through the beam theory. Mr. Sarkar briefed the students Deflection in beams. The second session covered the following topics: Stress & Strain, Types of Stresses, Bending stress, Stress – Strain analysis in beams, Shear Force & Bending Moment, Calculation of SF and Moments at different points, For different section, Plotting of SF and BM Diagram.
Third Session: 23rd August 2016
This session marked the end of the QEEE webinar for Bending and Stresses in Beams. The session covered all the topics of both first and second as well as the undermentioned new topics, Prof. Sarkar went through every point in details as he proceeded with the lecture to ensure that the students are on track with what was being taught. The topics covered in the session were: Bending stresses, how do they generate and how to calculate, deflection due to different loads and how beam behaves, bending equation.
In the end of the session, Professor cleared the doubt of the students.
The sessions were fruitful to the students as they have helped the students in understanding concept of Bending Stresses and Shear Force and Bending Moment, these topics are basics to Structural Analysis.
