From Water to Wisdom: ECE Students Explore Modern Water Treatment at GMDA
14th August 2026
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Dronacharya College of Engineering organized an industrial visit to the GMDA Water Treatment Plant, Chandu Budhera, Gurugram, Haryana, on 14th August 2026. The visit was organized to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of a large-scale water treatment facility and help them understand the application of electronics, instrumentation, automation, monitoring and control systems in essential public infrastructure.
During the visit, the students and faculty members were welcomed by the plant personnel, who provided an overview of the plant’s operations and its importance in meeting the water supply requirements of Gurugram. The students were introduced to the various stages of water treatment and gained insights into the functioning of different treatment units and the methods used for monitoring and controlling critical parameters throughout the process.
The technical team also explained the role of sensors, instrumentation systems, control panels, pumps, motors, electrical equipment and automation technologies in ensuring efficient and reliable plant operations. Students were able to observe how electronic and control systems are integrated with mechanical and electrical infrastructure to facilitate continuous monitoring, process control and efficient functioning of the treatment plant.
An interactive session with the technical staff of the plant further enriched the learning experience. Students actively raised questions related to plant automation, instrumentation, maintenance, water quality monitoring, operational challenges and control systems. The interaction enabled them to understand how the concepts studied in their academic curriculum are applied in a real industrial environment and how engineering technologies contribute to the efficient management of critical infrastructure.
The visit provided students with valuable industry-oriented exposure and practical understanding of engineering applications beyond the classroom. It enhanced their awareness of the role of Electronics and Communication Engineering in automation, monitoring and control and helped them appreciate the importance of precision, reliability and technological integration in large-scale industrial operations.
