Industrial visit to Aksh Optifibre Limited

Twenty nine students of VIth semester from the Electronics and Communication department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, along with one faculty member participated in an industrial visit to AKSH OPTIFIBRE LIMITED, in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan on 6th April 2015.
AKSH OPTIFIBRE LIMITED ( ISO 9001 and ISO 14000) is a 27 year old company manufacturing optical fiber andoptical fiber cables (OFC). The company is listed on both National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange. With a client base of more than 2500 it has a number of turnkey projects in Bhutan and Mauritius. It manufactures one of the most cost effective optical fiber cable and is the largest FRP rod producer, exporting to 56 countries.
On behalf of the company Mr. Sushank Saxena (Process Manager) welcomed the students. He gave a brief introduction about the company profile. The team was divided into three groups, each headed by one company executive. They coordinated the team’s visit to various sections of the company like cable, fibre, FRP.
Students visited the manufacturing, raw material and testing section of the plant and had an exposure to the machinery installed in different sections.
Mr. Saxena briefed the first group of students on the different stages of the cable section. He described all the stages which are used in fabrication of various types of cables & wires with different specifications and the variety of optical cables which are used in telecommunication networks. He gave a brief idea about core, cladding and the concept of total internal reflection.
The second group of students headed by Mr. Sunil Kumar (Process Manager) visited the Fiber section. Here the students came to know about the different processes involved in testing of the optical fiber cables. They witnessed the process of coloring of different types of optical fibers to make them distinguishable from the other cables. He briefed about the Pigeon VOIP(voice over internet protocol) services which are provided by AKSH in association with MTNL, that enables the subscribers to connect to more than 100 countries (including US, UK, Australia etc.) at very low prices but with superior voice quality.
The third group of the students visited the FRP section along with Mr. Anuj Maheswari (Project Engineer). In this section, he detailed out that how the different types of raw material is procured, especially sourced from Japan to meet the requirement for making specific types of optical fiber cables. Then, he showed FRP coating lines & rewinding lines of the section where high quality cables are being produced.
All the groups were interchanged to complete their visit in each section and gather the information on fabrication of range of optical cables used in variety of applications in end to end terrestrial communication.
After the conclusion of the visit Mr. Sushank Saxena took feedback from the students. The entire team appreciated and thanked the company executives for their hospitality. On the whole, the visit was very fruitful as it gave an opportunity to the students to learn various fundamental concepts of the optical fibers.
