Invited Talk by Dr.Vinod on New Technologies in Solar Photo-Voltaic
and Software Applications
CSI Delhi Chapter and Bharti Vidyapeeth CSI Student Branch organized a technical talk on “New Technologies in Solar Photo-Voltaic and Software Applications” by Dr. Vinod at BVICAM, Delhi on 11th April 2015 . Mr. Vijender Singh Hooda and Mr. Dharmender Pal from IT Department, Mr. Amar Saraswat, Assistant Professor, from CSE Department and Ms. Priyanka Mahani from ECS Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the talk.
The key speaker of the event was Dr. Vinod, who is Program Manager at 3M Renewable Energy Division, St. Paul, USA. The other dignitaries present were Shri S. D. Sharma, Chairman, CSI Delhi Chapter, Shri V. K. Gupta, Secretary, CSI Delhi Chapter, Shri Yudhishter Sharma, Chairman, Elect. Delhi Chapter and Prof. M. N. Hoda, Chairman, Division -1.
During the inauguration Ceremony, Dr. V. K. Gupta introduced the concept of solar power by a shloka from Yajurveda, which described that the Sun is the ultimate source of energy. Then Dr. Vinod discussed various concepts such as Solar Growth in India, 3M Solutions for Crystalline Silicon, Challenges and Sustainability of 3M technology and Light Redirecting Film during his technical talk & described that how 3M is the leader in increasing energy efficiency through light management and why the use of 3M solar light redirecting film is essential. He said that challenges, business sustainability and product durability is in total internal reflection in Solar Energy. Driven by advances in technology and increases in manufacturing scale and sophistication, the cost of photovoltaics has declined steadily since the first solar cells were manufactured.
Dr. Vinod also discussed about various software applications that can be developed and worked upon, which will be helpful in the field of Solar Energy. The various fields discussed included Development and Testing, Aging and Reliability Testing, Installation & Monitoring, and Servicing. He described that Photovoltaics is a method of converting solar energy into direct current electricity using semiconducting materials that exhibit the photovoltaic effect. Speaker said that a photovoltaic system employs solar panels composed of a number of solar cells to supply usable solar power. Power generation from solar PV has long been seen as a clean sustainable energy technology which draws upon the planet’s most plentiful and widely distributed renewable energy source i. e. Sun. Further discussed about n-type reflection coating, which is used to improve performance. With the help of diagram, speaker explained tha how the charge goes to Junction Box and again carry forward to invertor, obtaining 19.2 as maximum Performance.
In the end, Dr. Vinod discussed various research and business areas related to Solar Photovoltaic devices and its software applications, followed by Vote of Thanks by Shri Yodisther Sharma.
