Human Rights Day
10th December 2023
NSS Units, Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram celebrated “Human Rights Day” on 10th December, 2023. The day marked the 75th anniversary of one of the world's most ground breaking global pledges: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. 96 students participated in the celebration activities.
The Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10th December, 1948 and sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.
On this occasion, as an important part of the celebration, Prof. (Dr.) Shipra Arora and Prof. Neha Verma of DCE emphasized the importance of the Day, the significance of its celebration and commemorated the people who contributed to the cause. Students were asked to reflect on their rights, to protect their rights. The rights belong to everyone universally irrespective of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation. They must remain vigilant and report abuse and cruelty, such as human trafficking, child labour, forced labour and violence against women, children, and the aged and other vulnerable groupings of people.
An article writing competition on "Understanding human rights in respect of Fundamental rights defined in Constitution" was organized for the students to cherish the glory and reaffirm commitment to uphold the ideology of human rights.
The articles of the students were evaluated and the winners of the competition were awarded with certificate of appreciation.
