Sexual Harassment at Workplace Prevention Week

NSS Units , Women Development Cell, together with Cultural Club of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram organized “Sexual Harassment at Workplace Prevention Week” from 4th – 8th December, 2023. Faculty members, Staff members and students were part of the different activities and sessions held across the week.
Sexual Harassment Prevention Week was dedicated at raising awareness, educating, and taking proactive steps to prevent instances of sexual harassment in the workplace.
The program began with an enlightening session on telling about ‘Sexual Harassment’ and its forms by Prof. Megha Goel (WDC & Internal Complaint Committee member). All the faculty members and staff members attended the awareness lecture. She highlighted that Sexual Harassment means an unwanted conduct with sexual undertones if it occurs or which is persistent and which demeans, humiliates or creates a hostile an intimidating environment or is calculated to induce submission by actual or threatened adverse consequences and includes any one or more or all of the following unwelcome acts or behavior (whether directly or by implication):
- Physical contact or advances;
- A demand or request for sexual favours;
- Making sexually coloured remarks;
- Showing pornography;
- Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of a sexual nature
Mr. S. K. Yadav (Legal Advisor) took a session on ‘Sexual Harassment at Workplace: Prevention & Redressal’ and explained about POSH Act 2013 & the laws available for redressal in case of being harassed. He also explained about the impact of inappropriate behavior on both professional and personal fronts.
A poster competition was also organized by the cultural club wherein the girl students of the college participated with full zest. They were encouraged to unleash their creativity and skills to design posters that resonate with the theme of creating harassment free environment. They showed remarkable piece of inscription. The participant’s efforts were applauded as they depicted the posters made by them.
The skit titled ‘Respect Boundaries’ presented by the students depicted some good examples of sexual harassment. Each scene of the skit was meticulously presented and pulled the audience’s attention. By way of skit, a powerful message was delivered, emphasizing the significance of unity, empathy and active intervention in eradicating sexual harassment.
Lastly, a pledge was taken by all for spreading the necessary knowledge about prevention of sexual harassment everywhere.
