One-day Awareness Program on ORCHID and INFLIBNET services
27th July 2024
Dr. Ashok Kumar (Professor, DCE), Ms. Savita Devi (Librarian, DCE) and Mr. Devender Singh (Asst. Librarian) of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurugram attended one-day awareness programme on ORCID and INFLIBNET, held at Phool Bhagat Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan, Sonipat on 27th July, 2024. The primary objective of the workshop was to introduce ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and its benefits to the academic and research community, alongside exploring the functionalities of INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network), a significant digital platform in academia.
The objective of the workshop was to introduce participants to ORCID, a unique identifier for researchers that helps distinguish their work and contributions. Additionally, the workshop aimed to familiarize attendees with INFLIBNET, which provides a range of services to support academic libraries and research communities in India.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Sudesh Chhikara (Vice-Chancellor of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya.) In her address, she emphasized the crucial role of research tools and digital platforms in the modern academic landscape. Highlighting the importance of such workshops, she stressed that platforms like ORCID and INFLIBNET are indispensable for researchers and academicians in enhancing the visibility, accessibility, and impact of their work.
The workshop featured multiple sessions, each focusing on different aspects of ORCID and INFLIBNET. In the first session, Speaker, Dr. Hitesh Solanki provided an overview of ORCID, explaining its purpose and significance. ORCID serves as a unique identifier for researchers, helping to distinguish their work from that of others with similar names. It ensures proper attribution of their research outputs, enhancing their visibility and recognition in the academic community.
In the next session, Dr. Kannan highlighted the benefits of using ORCID for researchers. Discussions included how ORCID integrates with various academic databases and publishers, streamlining the process of manuscript submission and grant applications. The session also emphasized the importance of maintaining an up-to-date ORCID profile to showcase research contributions effectively.
The session provided an overview of INFLIBNET and its services. INFLIBNET is a major initiative by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India, aimed at creating infrastructure for sharing library and information resources among academic and research institutions. The platform supports a wide range of activities, including access to e-resources, research support services, and library automation.
Delving deeper into INFLIBNET's offerings, a session highlighted specific services such as Shodhganga (a repository of Indian theses and dissertations), e-ShodhSindhu (a consortium for e-resources), and Vidwan (a database of experts and researchers). The session illustrated how these services can be leveraged to enhance research capabilities and collaboration.
The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications from the experts. The session was highly engaging, with participants discussing various aspects of ORCID and INFLIBNET and sharing their experiences. The workshop successfully introduced the attendees to essential research tools and digital platforms, provided insights into their functionalities and benefits.
